Two factor authentication for an apple ID that is different than the one I use on my mac

I need to apply for an Apple Developer so I can give access to that account to a third party firm that is designing a proprietary app for a conference. To apply to Apple Developer, I need two factor authentication on my mac. The apple ID attached to my mac is my personal account. I need to use a work apple ID. How can I get two factor authentication for an apple id separate from my own, but that I manage?

You should be able to create an ID with 2 Factor Authentication, but you will need a separate phone number to receive verification codes. To use the 2nd ID on the computer, I suggest you set up new user account in System Preferences/Users & Groups to keep your personal data and Developer data separate.
