So, I purchased a new iphone 11 at the local apple store (Atlanta, GA, USA) and its great. But am travelling to India for work and will be stationed there for a few months. I dont know if the phone I purchased (iphone 11 model A2111) is going to work in India (with a local carrier SIM) or whether I should return it. What are my options? I dont want to buy another phone.
As you may be aware the model iphone 11 (A2221) is released as per global band requirements and is supposed to work seamlessly with majority of the Indian carriers.
The model A2111 available in US market doesn't support below bands that are available in A2221 -
11 (1500 MHz)
21 (1500 MHz)
28 (700 APT MHz)
32 (1500 L-band)
Whereas the The model A2221 available in Indian market doesn't support below bands that are available in A2111 -
14 (700 PS)
71 (600 MHz)
In summary, yes the iphone 11 model A2111 will work in India and you'll get the LTE(4G) in
In other network you might get HSPA+ / 3.5G (4G speed)

You need to check the model's specs for providers. I think it must support GSM frequencies used in India. Perhaps call the Atlanta store where you bought it for verification. Except for this it will work.

Did you buy an unlocked phone?
If you bought a phone using a carrier financing plan such as AT&T Next, or Verizon's annual upgrade program, or leased a phone through Sprint, then the phone is not unlocked and will not work with another carrier until you complete the finance/lease program from your carrier and get it unlocked.
All unlocked iPhones will work flawlessly in India.
All the leading MNO's in the country have got support for iPhones except BSNL, I am using the same model (iPhone 11) with Jio and it works like a charm!
So both sims will work in India. One psychical sim and one esim from Airtel or Jio. Can you please confirm as

yes it's working fine and you need to buy unlocked version. Both sims(airtel,jio) are working.I have enabled esim with Jio and it's working fine.But some times network drops on esim.Apart form that there is no difference.

If it wasn’t financed, you should be able to get it unlocked immediately. However, most would recommend getting the “SIM-free” version available directly from Apple.

I bought it in Washington DC and I’m back to Bangalore, the Airtel sim is working fine for me and I’m getting the 4g connection. Everything looks good so far.

No. Best Buy does NOT sell unlocked iPhones. The only place you can buy a new unlocked iPhone in the US is directly from Apple.
