Cheek keeps putting phone on speaker

Owned iPhones for years and in particular this X. In the past week or so my phone all of a sudden keeps activating speaker when I’m trying to have a conversation. I’m hitting the screen with my cheek I imagine but I’ve never had this problem before. Seemed to happens since I did my last update. If I click the right button to sleep it hangs up the call. I need another work around if anyone has a suggestion.

Click here and do a -> Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

After that, do this test below:

While on a call, cover the top part of iPhone with your palm and see if it disable the screen.

If it does, your Proximity sensor works an everything is fine.

if not, make a genius bar appointment with Apple for an evaluation.

They have diagnostic tools and can tell you what options you have.
