Screen Flickers 11Pro Max

Has anyone noticed a screen flicker with the 11Pro max? For example when going through photos or watching movies the screen flickers like brightness is trying to adjust to the content on screen.

auto brightness is off on my device and this is very frustrating!

It seems like a wide spread issue among many users on MacRumors Forum. To sum up, many iPhone 11 Pro Max devices have screen flickers in photos app when Night Shift (or True Tone) and View Full HDR enabled.

Many of us had the exact same problem reproduced when getting a replaced device (iPhone 11 Pro Max) so it would seem to be a software problem. But nothing is sure for now as we're still having the problem even now at iOS 13.1.2. @Apple please release another update soon to fix this.

This is not a statement from Apple. This is a statement from me, a power user and developer. Along with hundreds over on MacRumors who had the same bug. I was one of the initial people who contacted the Apple engineers about this issue. Did you actually update your phone to 13.2? Or are you just swapping your iPhones out for new ones expecting the latest firmware to be installed? Because they’re not gonna come with 13.2 preinstalled. Update to 13.2, and just like myself and everyone else on MacRumors, your issue will be fixed. You can do this by opening settings >general, >software update.

Thanks for the info. I am happy for you.

However, this makes me worry my Pro may actually have a hardware defect. And I don’t like the idea having my iPhone replaced. So, does anybody else observe the issue with iOS 13.2?

With me, the flickering - best visible by different shading of the unused background for the first few seconds - appears mainly in the Photos App with certain and most recently taken pictures as well as always when returning to the photos overview where there is a horizontal line from left to right at the photos count which disappears after a few seconds when the flickering has ceased. Neither the line nor the flickering appear if Full HDR is disabled.

Yes, this happened to me too, I have the iPhone 11 Pro Max, purchased it two weeks ago & 3 days later I realized that while looking through my photos it was flickering, but then it stopped so I never took it back to get it checked. But this week it's happening again, it's frustrating and I'm so afraid that one of these days the screen will just NOT turn on. I'm wondering if I should just return the device....... I notice your post is from September, have you fixed the issue?

The issue seems to be fixed with some or even most Pro (Max) iPhones. However, it is not fixed with mine. Not with iOS 13.2, neither with 13.2.2 nor with 13.2.3.

I am looking forward to another update that hopefully fixes the issue for my iPhone, too. Luckily it‘s not an (obvious) issue with Full HDR disabled. And I am hoping it’s not a hardware defect.

With what iOS version do you see the issue?

I’ve reported this problem to the service providers and they recommend me a restore. I hope that would be helpful to fix this problem. I have actually turn the the “View Full HDR” off to ignore this terrible problem temporary. But when I turn it on I just feel the flickering again and that’s sounds terrible!

I hope that it would not be a hardware problem!

I had the same issue.

Noticed it in two modes.

1.) While scrolling through and displaying images. (Turning off Settings / Photos / View Full HDR seemed to fix this issue. Not 100% sure, however, because I subsequently did a hard reset of the phone and many, many other things that have been recommended and, now, I can turn HDR back on and that problem does not comeback.)

2) Still had the jittery flickering screen problem when viewing a website with Safari and any Ad was being displayed. Played with toggle certain Safari settings and sometimes (seems buggy and inconsistent) toggling Settings / Safari / Prevent Cross Site Tracking off and refreshing the website put Safari into a mode, where the Ad pics went away and, therefore, the flickering stopped. Noticed, however, that this solution (again seems buggy) because the results are not consistent. Sometimes the ads go away and sometimes they do not. Sometimes turning that feature back on, seems to temporarily fix the problem. Anyway, just seeing the association of the flickering be related to the ad pics being displayed, caused me to buy Ad Block Pro for $10 and that also solves the problem, because Ads are no longer displayed. Also, my phone seems to be blazing fast now with that Ap installed. Not sure exactly why, but I suppose it is preventing some data flowing between the web and my phone. Who knows, but I am very happy now!! Thought there may actually be some hardware issue with the phone!

There are free Ad Blocker apps that may help too, but I was so frustrated with poor battery life on this new phonej (seems I may have resolved that too!) and the flickering that I just went straight for the $10 pro version and life seems to be very good now! Time is $$$ too!

It’s a widespread problem with many complaints from my research. My daughter, wife and I all are experiencing the flickering with three different built iPhone 11 Pros. I have noticed the flickering screen seems to be more apparent when using several minutes of what I call hard or fast browsing. During this time I’ve noticed the iPhones are warming to the point of being uncomfortable in my hand.

This is not the fault of any phone case or screen protector because my family doesn’t have those devices on the iPhone.
