I have found the solution, especially if you’re a Gmail user using and syncing your email through the stock iOS mail app.

Selecting each email individually is not the way you want to do it.

  • You’re not seeing a delete option and an archive option instead, because your deleted emails location is set as Archive. This can be changed under the following settings: Settings > Account & Password > Tap on Account > Advanced > Select Deleted Mailbox; after that, it will mass delete the emails.

You need to read WillApple82’s solution in the thread which reads “You’re not seeing a delete option and an archive option instead, because your deleted emails location is set as Archive. This can be changed under the following settings: Settings > Account & Password > Tap on Account > Advanced > Select Deleted Mailbox; after that, it will mass delete the emails”.

i tried this solution and it worked great. I can now mass delete by choosing “select all” and the delete option shows up instead of “archive”. Works Great!! Thanks to WillApple82.

If you are trying to Edit your Trash or Junk mailbox and doing a SelectAll and you only see Mark, Move, Archive then the only way to delete your mail from those mailboxes is to Edit the mailbox, do not SelectAll. Instead select a few of the messages then press/hold the Archive option and you should see Archive or Delete. And you should be able to delete those messages. Repeat until your mailbox is empty.

I have to be absolutely frank regarding this issue; it's been resolved. If folks haven't been able to resolve it, you're either not following directions, or you don't have email on your iPhone, I mean, it is THAT simple to resolve.

The S/MIME isn't even a part of this; it was just mentioned to describe the page you'd eventually be taken to in the normal course of following the directions to change the settings only because it'd appear and by mentioning it, you'd know you had been following directions. Please follow the simple settings listed below that have already been published multiple times:

  1. Hit the gear icon called Settings.
  2. On the section of information that starts with "Passwords & Accounts," select "Passwords & Accounts."
  3. Under the screen titled "Passwords & Accounts" (shown at the top of the screen in bold white letters with "<Settings" shown in blue to the left.
  4. Below the 2 selections titled "Website & App Passwords" and "AutoFill Passwords," you'll see another group of selections titled under "Accounts." This is where your email accounts' information is stored.
  5. Select the email address you're trying to change.
  6. You'll then be taken to a screen with the title of that account in bold white print at the top.
  7. Select the selection marked "Account youremail@domain.com" where "youremail@domain.com" is your actual email address
  8. You're then taken to a screen where "Account" is marked in bold in white print at the top; at the bottom, select "Advanced"
  9. You're then taken to a screen where "Advanced" is marked bold in white print at the top; under the group of selections marked "Mailbox Behaviors," you'll see 2 selections under a title marked "Move Discarded Messages Into." By default, this is probably already checked for "Archive Mailbox." Select "Deleted Mailbox." Then you're done.

For those of you who the technique has not worked for, try to make sure your set up is exactly this way:

when I first changed the checkbox from “archive mailbox” to “deleted mailbox” (2nd group-move discarded messages into:), I was still running into issues as well. when I went back, I noticed the “deleted mailbox” directly below the “drafts mailbox” (1st group-mailbox behaviors) had the word ‘archived’ or something else (might have been ‘all mail’ not sure). it did not have the word ‘trash‘ there...I had to physically change it.

so if your set up does not say ‘trash’ next to “deleted mailbox,” try changing it like I did by clicking the arrow and moving the checkbox to the word ‘trash’ under the on the server area. even in the post for WillApple82...one of his screen shots shows this area has the word ‘trash’ as well. For some reason mine was not defaulted (I possibly did not do something else previously mentioned correctly). screen capture below of the menu after selecting the arrow from “deleted mailbox”

and as previously mentioned, make sure you press done to finalize everything.

[Solution: Mass Delete Mails]

open Mail app > select Edit > Select 'All Bins' to appear

Once done, just move all the mails you want to delete to Bin from Mailbox (as you'd normally do).

open All Bins > select Edit > tick Select All (Delete option should appear by now) > select Delete

ps. Remember, not gonna happened in Bins of each account. Only works in All Bins.

Hope it works for you guys!

My son is an IT Tech-high security, and explained to me that GMail is an app owned by Google/alphabet.

when Apple pushes out new software, they release the information to the apps they work with, in order to make those apps compatible to their new software.

When the software comes out earlier than told, the apps don’t have as much time to adapt their software to Apple’s.

As a result, these bugs are what we are experiencing.

I’m pretty sure it would be far more productive to complain to Google/alphabet about gmail than Apple. Thats probably why we don’t get a response here.

Make sense?
