I’m on iOS 13.2 public beta 2, and it’s still not working as it should or as it used to.

Duplicating the original video and then editing the duplicate does nothing. Let’s say you have a 10 minute video, then duplicate it and then trim it down to 10 seconds. Think that video is 10 seconds? Click edit again and you’ll see it’s still 10 minutes long, but the yellow bars are showing the 10 seconds. So if you play back the edited video on your iPhone or iPad, it’ll play the 10 seconds. Share that video with anyone via say Facebook messenger - it sends them the full thing, but it shows them it’s 10 seconds long. Play it and it’ll go from 0:00 to 0:10 and then keep playing up to the 10 minutes. It’s a waste of time.

One way I tried was screen recording the clip and then trimming that, but again you’ll be sending the full thing.

The only way I have found that works is to trim the video, then text it to yourself and then save that. Then you’ll get the true 10 second video.

Why Apple haven’t fixed this yet is beyond me. I’ve reported this five times now through the Feedback app. I honestly don’t think they look at those reports...

Important point re: cropping video vs editing it:

If you crop a video to the desired length, iMessage it to yourself or save to files or something like that, but then do “anything” to that saved file later - those new edits done through the photos app will also not be there in whatever you share with anyone.

Example: Crop a video down to 10 seconds - text it to yourself and save it. You realize the new saved video could do with a little more color and it’s not level so needs to be rotated - whatever the result is - it will still be the original unless you send it to yourself.

This isn’t just a cropping issue - it’s anything you do with a video.

Yes this is terrible for editing clips out of videos. I film skateboarding on my phone and without the save as feature I’m holding on to multiple massive clips just to graphic 10 seconds. It’s filling my phone up and forcing me to buy more iCloud space to free up space on my phone. The only way to avoid it is to duplicate the clip text the clip you edited down to yourself then save that and go back and revert the original. What is the point of duplicating the entire clip and not just the part you want? Seems like a scam to sell phones with more storage or force you to buy more iCloud space. We need save as back ASAP. This is wack!

It’s in iOS 13.3 which is currently in public beta, so the official iOS doesn’t yet have it, but will whenever apple release 13.3.

Quick update on the bugs found before in 13.3 beta 2: In beta 3 released today, the photos app still freezes a little when saving as a new clip, but not as much as before, and audio/video sync is better. Looks like it’s being improved.

btw that chiitan7407 on Instagram in the screenshot above is hilarious lol what better way to test video clips that screen record a Japanese mascot causing havoc.

From what I understand, they just completely took this away which is a total crime. Other apps can’t read the trimmed clip. Also, I used that “save as a new clip” very often! I would take a long clip and save a bunch shorter ones to post. But now I can’t do that without going to a third party app and it takes so much longer. #shakingFistAtApple
