MY COMPUTER keeps crashing OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.6 MacBook Pro (15 inch, mid 2010) Processor 2.66 Intel core i7 Memory 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Graphics Intel HD graphics 288 MB

Haven’t had consistent action to sort exact cause. After waking from sleep I’ll usually be checking if browser is open or needs to be, but I sometimes briefly open other programs prior to going online. More often than not, whatever I’m doing is halted by the screen instantly going black until a grey screen displaying msg of computer encountered a problem and was forced to shutdown and will auto restart or click button to restart. An option to send a report to Apple May or may not also be included in this scenario.

Restart your Mac and press and hold the Command and R keys, this should boot your Mac to its Recovery HD. Once it has booted up open disk Utility and run First Aid, to check the Disk for errors, if errors are found then run First Aid again until the errors clear.

How much free space does your Mac have, always keep at least 15-20GBs free.

Have you tried booting your Mac up in Safe Mode, Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support

Booting to Safe Mode can take several minutes and you may see your screen flicker and lines appear this is all perfectly normal

when it has fully booted run a few things to see how it performs, and the boot back up normally. hs it made a difference.
