As you are posting this question in the Yosemite section of the Apple Support Communities it is not unreasonable to assume your Mac is running Mac OS X Yosemite. Split View was not available in Yosemite, it was introduced in the next version of Mac OS X which was Mac OS X !0.11 El Capitan. For you to get Split View you would need to upgrade to a newer OS.

Depending on your Macs model and its year will determine which macOS you can upgrade to,

read the following links.

How to upgrade to macOS Mojave - Apple Support

How to upgrade to macOS High Sierra - Apple Support

How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support

Before upgrading make a full back up of your Mac.

Check that third party apps you use have updates available for the new OS.

https://roaringapps.com

Check that your printers/ scanners etc have updated drivers and software available for the new OS.

Please note that the App Store will recognise if your Mac can upgrade higher than El Capitan,

Therefore if you ask for El Capitan but can upgrade higher you will be refused El Capitan.
