Upgrade flash memory MacbookPro 13" 2016
Hi - has anyone been able to upgrade the flash memory in a 2016 Macbook pro 13"?
If so was this done by Apple or a third party technician?
I'm based in Brisbane, Australia.
Thanks
Chris

No parts are available even if you could find a way to do it. Most components are also soldered down for maximum reliability.
You will need to apply the same technique as upgrading the engine in your car, an equally impractical proposition.
Convert the computer you have to Cash, by selling it, and buy a new or used computer that better meets your needs.

There are no 3rd party SSDs that are known to work with a 2016 model. If it's the Touch Bar version, the SSD is a permanent part of the logic board. If it's a Function Keys model there's no aftermarket SSD that works. It might be possible to install a salvage part.
As documented by site sponsor OWC, regardless of generation, all 13-Inch and 15-Inch models with the "Touch Bar" functionality do, in fact, have the SSD soldered in place which makes them impossible to upgrade after purchase.
However, in an unexpected surprise that is contrary to Apple's official documentation, the entry-level 13-Inch "Late 2016" and "Mid-2017" models without the Touch Bar actually do have the SSD mounted on a small proprietary module, so future upgrades theoretically are possible.

However, No parts are available this writing.

The Function Keys version has a removable/replaceable SSD, but so far only Apple OEM parts will work. The usual suspects (OWC and Transcend) don't have anything.

Ahh thats helpful. I have the budget version (no touch bar). It is probably time to upgrade though. Running out of space and I can't always access the cloud for storage.
It's easy enough to use an external drive for supplemental storage. It's kind of complicated, but it might also be possible to move backups and iTunes data to an external drive.
Applications and system data needs to be on the boot drive though.
