garage band tone plays continuously

I created a short tone, consisting of 4 clapping sound effects in an 8 bar song/section.

When exported for use as a ring tone, it plays continuously when called into use, not 4 claps, pause, 4 claps pause, as I expected (and as the "song" plays).

How do I get this to clap-clap-clap-clap pause-pause-pause-pause ?
