Problem adding contact from text

My iphone Xr calls the contact that i am trying to “add to my contacts” from a text and won’t allow me to add the contact through the text message.

I’m sorry no, that’s not what I was trying to say.

I was trying to explain that the phone actually calls the contact that I am trying to “create new contact” from a text message. I know how to “create new contact” from a text message using the ! Info button, etc...

It’s a glitch Apple needs to fix.

I figured out that if i just touch the screen the graphics jump and I can choose “create new contact”” and it works. If I try to click “create new contact” when it first comes up it calls the contact.

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. I'm understanding from your post that you'd like to add a number to your contacts from a text message, but are only being given the option to call it. I'm happy to help!

If you're trying to add a number that was sent to you via text message (so not the sender of the text, but a number within the message thread itself), tap on the number in the message, and press into the display slightly (as if you were pressing a physical button). This will enable 3D Touch, and a new menu will pop up. Inside will be several options, including adding the number to Contacts.

If you're trying to save the number of the person sending you the text message, tap the number at the top of the message thread, then tap the info (i) button. A new page will appear, with the number in the top. To the right of the number will be several options, depending on what type of number it is (to call, to message, to FaceTime, etc). Next to that will be a little arrow >. Tap the arrow and additional options will appear, including options to create a new contact or add to an existing one.
