Why does my Music start playing automatically when I plug in headphones?

Ever since the iOS 13 update, whenever I plug in my headphones to make a call my Music app automatically starts playing music. How do I get it to stop?

Ive installed the bug fix update and I’ve even turned off all settings for the Music app and unchecked all the music folders in the app. I’ve tried everything.

It’s really annoying. Any ideas? Can’t find anyone else experiencing this.

I just want to make some points for Apple to understand how deeply frustrating this problem is for all of us:

  • For each time I plug in my earbuds to prepare for a call, music starts up
  • Upsettingly, sometimes this happens just as I'm about to dial a number
  • Car use is the worst, driving down the road, getting ready to make a call is a terrible distraction
  • Keep in mind, this is a SAFETY issue too (that's why I'm using earbuds)
  • Yes, it is a SAFETY problem
  • Only times I plug in earbuds will be to make calls or listen to music, admittedly
  • Understandably, we all recognize the problem, Apple, why can't you?
  • All of the time, this is how frequently it happens - ALL OF THE TIME
  • Possibly this is a convenience feature, but it is really an "inconvenience" issue too!
  • Please fix this APPLE!
  • Let's all make as much noise as we can about this!
  • Ending this problem would make me very happy

That's all I have to say in making my points. Does everyone get these points?

I actually found a thread on the Logi website that I replied to to see if there was a fix

and got a response very quickly. They noted the following and I did the update and it seems

to have resolved the issue!

Kindly download the LogiTune app (link below) and update your zone Wired's firmware via the app as this should resolve the issue.

I started having this problem today. While listening on my wired earbuds, connected via the dongle, my phone would randomly start playing a podcast using my podcast app (Overcast), and sometimes just forward itself to the next podcast in my feed, play it for a few seconds, sometimes skip ahead to the next podcast. It might stay quiet for 5 minutes or so, then start playing something right after I put my phone in my shirt pocket.

I force-quit out of Overcast, opened up my Apple Music app, and the phone started doing the same thing with songs from my library! My current theory is that there's something wonky with my earbuds. It could be short in the volume/playback controller on the cord that goes to my right earbud. Either that, or a connection issue with my dongle adapter. I'm still at the debugging stage, but I'll keep plugging away and see if my old AirPods can still hold a charge so I can wirelessly test with them.

This problem started for me about a week ago too, I listen to audio books on my iphone while out walking and as soon as I put it in my pocket it’ll turn off, then other times it’ll skip chapters or Siri randomly comes on, I turned that off which helps but I still get the other problems. I used my earphones in my ipad this morning and it randomly started playing music so I felt sure it was the ear phones. I don’t have others to test at the moment so I’ll be interested to know how you get on.

My iPhone has been auto playing from the Apple Music app every time I connect it to my car stereo via usb. I realised tonight that after I started using an Apple Music subscription it also interfered with my navigation as it was trying not to interrupt what I was playing (I had paused as soon as I could while I was driving so it was silent anyway) and stopped speaking directions. I have car play disabled but I’m going to try turning it on next. Others report car play allows auto music playing too so I have no hope that will help.

AIt’s sept 2021 AND’S MY PHONE DOING IT!!!! Argh!!!!!!!! Granted I have i phone 8, but regardless it shouldn’t be an issue! In fact, it didn’t do it until a couple of months ago and must be from a recent update which is really bull crap. I feel trapped in the whole iPhone world as it is having to have special chargers or apps that only will go to Apple which obviously is a way of making more money for them but now the music too don’t mess with my music or I don’t want your phone at all!! Also I’ve yet to see any responses from Apple I imagine it’s got to be somewhere if not that is really poor but I’m not going to sit here and read through every post I wish somebody would let me know because the solutions I’ve heard of so far are no longer applicable or working for me. Thank you for your time

2 years from this first query and still same problem. Driving me mad on my phone, ipad and macbook. Sent third party bluetooth ear buds back as faulty as thought it was them and now feel dreadful as replacements doing the same thing. No problem with my wired apple headphones just wireless. Was just about to buy Beats or Apple airpods but if the same happens i'll be really ******. Tried to completely delete music app from ipad and it still managed to reopen and start playing???

Yep. When I pause my Bluetooth headphones, my Music app automatically plays the most recent song at HIGH volume, EVEN when the app has been properly shut down! I keep my OS up to date and restart my phone weekly or more often.

It is stupid that when someone wants to ask me a question, they get cursing and me ripping off my headphones in response!

iPhone SE and 7s (I have two phones.) Problem got worse in 2021.

How do I unfollow this thread? It's just too painful to see so many people like myself continually trying to get an answer to this obviously ridiculous default. And, I'm constantly fighting "battery life" on the phone. Just how much of the battery life is consumed by MUSIC running in the background that I have to turn off? And that only exists because the MUSIC app is on the phone? I use it maybe once a month. Maybe.

Why does my Music start playing automatically when I plug in headphones?
