Family Sharing two adult accounts

Hello.

My wife and I have separate Apple ID's and I was considering combining them into a Family Sharing account. We both are very independent so I am a little cautious. Is there a way to keep our payment of purchases separate on our own original accounts? Can I create a new "Family" Apple ID on a CC and then invite both my wife and myself to join so we can keep our original accounts separate? Also, what will happen with the music we each have on our respective devices that we ripped from purchased CD's (long ago)? We have no interest in Apple Music.

Any thoughts experiences would be greatly appreciated before I act.

Thanks!

(both still using iOS 12.4.1 for now....)

You can choose to not share purchases, but that pretty much defeats the purpose of Family Sharing.

What do you think you need Family Sharing for?

Your CD based music remains available only to you regardless of Family Sharing.

If you create a family the way you are suggesting, your purchases still get shared.

Thanks so much for the reply. I want the Family Sharing so that both my wife and I don’t do dual purchases of music, movies and books. So yes I want to share purchases. For many years now I have had ongoing issues with my extensive library of music CDs that I have put into iTunes. Same issues with movies. Issues include deleted songs/albums and repeatably “hidden” (a Family Sharing feature) movies. I just don’t want to make already bad worse.

Thanks again
