Hi,
I have an Apple Watch 5 and the compass won’t indicate anything. It just has a red spinning arc on the outer grey circle. I’ve tried turning it off and on but still isn’t working. I’ve just got the watch. Is there something I have to do to get it working?

I had the exact same thing ... couldn't figure it out until I found a post from 2016 where somebody had the same problem with their iPhone and to my surprise that fix is the same for the watch:
go to settings (on the watch itself) --> Compass --> disable "Use True North"
Your compass should be working again after you disabled it.
