11 Pro scratches easily

Is anyone else having issues with the 11 Pro scratching easily? Had it less than a week. Never dropped it. I carry it in my pocket with no keys or change in it.

my iPhone SE I had for 3 years has no scratches, and my new 11 Pro already has a scratch I can feel with my fingernail. Very disappointed considering this was supposed to be the toughest glass on a smartphone.

You need to find the source of the scratching. Sand, very little grains that hide in pockets. Sometimes you maybe wipe the screen without blowing off anything on there that might be tiny grain like things. Maintaining my pro max pristine is extremely difficult to do and if you really look closely after you clean it you probably have many hairline or smaller than hairline scratches on there. Its very hard to own these and really keep them fresh. Even the best like me fail to be so careful and someone will take a pic with it and maybe wear a ring that touches it or theyll lay it screen down on a purse with a hard button or metal piece

And Screen Protectors. My new iPhone 11 Pro Max had a screen protector put on before I even turned it on to set it up. Every iPhone I've ever owned has had one. These puppies are simply too expensive to take any chances on sand or grit scratching the screen, ESPECIALLY, if they are carried in pants pockets.

Oh, you're referring to the display.

It's hard to make glass that's scratch proof (very strong) and not brittle (crack under pressure).

If Apple used Sapphire crystal for example, it would be scratch proof, but very brittle and would probably crack very easily.

Lots of good affordable tempered glass screen protectors available.

I have the same issue, I have been so careful with this device as it's the first new phone I've had in about almost 3 years, so I am really surprised about the glass getting scratched so easily. I went into Apple yesterday, and they initially said they would replace it there and then - I got the phone is the Apple store, but on a plan through my service provider, who are Vodafone. When they saw the receipt indicated the phone is being purchased on a plan, the literally took away the new phone they were just about to hand over, and said no I need to go through Vodafone's return policy. I do believe Vodafone will be even less likely to care about this. Apple told me that the glass scratching was just cosmetic and that they have no way of proving what time span the damage occurs or at what rate these screens can scratch - less than 3 weeks apparently! So then, I ended up calling Apple's customer care number and they told me the same thing, but then I asked to talk with a manager, who was really lovely and sounded at least understanding of my concerns. She asked me to send through photos of the device and the scratches, and I tried my best to photograph them, but to be honest, the scratches are almost invisible except in certain light. At first glance the screen looks completely liquid smooth, but then as you move the screen and light goes across it, you can see multiple scratches all over the screen, they almost look like they are IN the screen. All I can say is my iPhone 6 plus took a very long time to get any kind of marks on the glass, and when i traded it in recently the amount of damage on the glass was not much more than what this iphone 11 already has on it after about 2-3 weeks of very careful use. Apple told me this was cosmetic but I tried to argue that all the marketing for the iPhone suggests that the glass is actually a technical feature of the device, which i do feel like it is when one of the main selling points I saw in every single ad showed an iPhone being splattered with all kind of stuff, and being tossed onto car seats, all of these suggesting that the phone is quite durable, but in fact, it is not. I guess this is going to a big lesson learnt by many Apple users.

Sorry, but you are totally wrong on this one. I have had my Note 10 Plus about a month longer than the iPhone11 Pro Max. The Note screen is absolutely perfect, whereas the iPhone has hundreds of tiny scratches, and the both of them are used exactly the same way.

We also have an iPhone 6 Plus that the wife uses, and she is reasonably rough, not a single scratch.

No, they have definitely changed the composition of the new iPhone screens. For the worse.

Same issue, Ive never had screen scratches from normal wear and tear before on any of my iphones. Never used screen protectors because I’ve never needed one. People on here responding with sarcasm and blaming us for not using a screen protector are missing the point. This is an alarming decline in quality from a well established product and screens should not be prone to scratches this easily.

I really think that everyone is missing the point, or at least the people in defense of Apple’s clear digression in screen quality. They didn’t scratch as easy before but they are now!

Has nothing to do with buying protective tempered glass screens or otter boxes. Apple is charging more for the phones and like most manufacturers, cutting corners on quality.

They send people like Safain to give text book garbage answers instead of backing their failing product.

And then they will charge you $125 or more to replace the screen.

We expect more from Apple.

What is with the people in this thread bizarrely telling you to get a screen protector? Yeah let me get a $1,000+ piece of beautiful hardware, and then interact with and view it every single day through a $19 piece of garbage crummy “glass” that I just stuck on top. It’s like nobody here has ever used their phone without one. It’s a wildly different tactile experience, even with the most expensive screen protectors.

It’s bad enough I have to hide this thing in a case at all (thank God for Otterbox slimming down their designs), but I’m not about to screw with the screen - the primary point of daily interaction with the phone - on top of that just to avoid some scratches. At that point, I’d rather have the scratches.

Ideally, I should have neither. Or at the very least, the durability of these shouldn’t be REGRESSING. Come on, Apple.

Enhancing the durability of the screens on these devices should be the #1 priority over almost everything else.
