Ever since this update, Mail has not been able to connect with the server and Safari only works occasionally . I use Firefox with no problem, but prefer Safari and Mail. There were no problems before the update; how can I get these to work again?
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode?
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
If using Wifi, instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
System Preferences>Network>choose interface>Advanced>Proxies Tab, make sure none are set, like for HTTP & HTTPS.
System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...

Yes, I have gone through safe mode. Safari sometimes works then, Mail still doesn't. I went ahead and removed all the start up items through system preferences but that didn't make a difference. I also deleted my Safari extensions with no change. Since Firefox still works, I'm a bit at a loss.
I just went through the instructions for Location in System preferences. That also did not work. I really do appreciate your thorough instructions. I feel like there is probably a simple answer but I've been chipping away at this for almost a week and I've eliminated several things that it is NOT. Hope to hear some more ideas of things to try. Thanks!
