fed up with apple music and alexa - intermittent playback

So, Alexa and Apple Music in the UK do not regularly play nice. Apart from the fact that you can ask Alexa to play music on one device and it will play randomly on one of my other devices (amazon problem I think), I have constant problems where I ask Alexa to "play music" and it starts playing the free Amazon Music (with ads).


When I ask it to play music from Apple Music, I get "cannot play apple music with explicit filtering on". However, ask it on a different day or or time and it will play fine from Apple Music.


Any suggestions? It sounds like poor skills integration between Amazon and Apple Music - or apple music is randomly adding explicit songs to my personal playlist somehow...

I think it’s new, I’ve had some routines setup of a few echo dots to play a playlist I have as an alarm in the morning. It’s been working great for weeks since setup. Then last week it broke, it now just days it cannot play, explicit filter is enabled and Apple Music doesn’t support filtering.


but I enabled explicit filtering on my Apple account years ago. It’s why I used Apple and not Amazon as at the time amazon didn’t have filtering.


I am now wondering if Apple changed something in the recent updates and removed filtering?

I don't think it's a new problem - I've had it intermittently before but now its permanent.


I can't decide if this is Amazon messing things up as people cancel Amazon Music accounts to go with Apple Music, or Apple messing things up as people are buying cheap Alexa's instead of HomePod's.


Frankly, if Apple did a cheaper homepod I'd buy one but they seem to be pushing Alexa as the cheap speaker option. It's a shame it no longer works.

APPLE MUSIC DOESNT WORK ON ALEXA

Canadian subscriber to Apple music. Works fine in car with CarPlay but won’t work with Alexa

amazon support has been terrible. Spent hours on phone and was told it was being escalated to senior advisor who couldn’t help but promised a return call the next day. No callback

i called again and this time I was told issue was being escalated to developer team with a promised call back within a week. No callback

called Amazon again and was told there are no notes about escalation

i gave up, cancelled Apple Music and disabled it on Alexa

Spotify works perfectly on Alexa AND on CarPlay in car
