Some things that would help to know:

1. Where is the hard drive connected? To your iPhone or a computer?
2. Are you wanting to transfer directly from your iPhone to an external hard drive?
3. Are you transferring to iTunes on your computer?
4. Do you want to transfer to an external hard drive connected to your computer?
5. Anything else you can provide to clarify your question.
