catalina mail column view

In the new Mac osX CataIina I cannot find a way to change the columns viewed in Mail. You used to be able to change the field widths and add columns from the View/Columns menu. How can I accomplish this now?

Also, what does the black background TO next to the email title mean?

Hallelujah, Mail Column View, as it was, is back with Big Sur! I joined the Beta Program and installed the Beta version of Big Sur and I can confirm that the column view is restored to its original grandeur. Any information that you desire is available and sortable by the same.

Maybe Apple did realize they made a blunder with Catalina and maybe they do listen to us. Possibly it was a major software change and took a lot to restore it.

I only wish they would have let us know they planned to restore Mail so we would have not had to spend so much time writing to this post and sending service requests. Also, in the introductory clip for Big Sur, it would be nice if they highlighted the return of the column view as originally designed.

WOW, a new update for Catalina, macOS 10.15.3 Update!

WA-HOO, WOW, MAKES ME SHIVER, THIS IS GREAT! (being sarcastic)

This is what I sent to Apple through the feedback link.

Your latest update to Catalina is disappointing. I see you have updated "gamma handling" and "multi-stream video editing performance for HEVC".

How many users does this benefit?

How about reading the support community posts and get Mail back to what it was. This probably effects thousands (maybe millions) of users.

to the brilliant minds at Apple....Catalina Mail is an example of a great company loosing touch with your everyday customers....

Mail is now a juvenile mail program and puts outlook as much as I hate to admit it...ahead

I am embarrassed for Apple...so non intuitive to fix something that wasn't broken

no more apple products for me...until its fixed...we in this community should all resolve to stay away from any new Apple purchase.....the sad news is they just set a record in revenues....so we the deplorable get lost in their min dressiness

my message to apple today:

---

i have 16 years mail in local folders where i can search for old docs and conversations. it is very usefull in my job.

in catalina mail i can sort the mails "to" but only see "from" - that makes apple mail useless to me.

can you please tell me if apple intends to make it possible to use "classic view" again in the near future, or should i just use some days to export everything to outlook ?

---

  • and then i read this thread and decided to use the weekend to make a shift to outlook... hope i can do it in two days.

i just moved from mail to outlook and transferred 10.000+ mails from archives in less than an hour using "mail extractor pro".

smooth. an extra 50$ on top of the microsoft license, and it seems to be worth every penny.

uslsoftware who made that little wonder must be so glad for apple launching catalina.

so must microsoft.

and that might be the point: sometimes it is very good business to fix it even if it ain't broken.

apple makes money on hardware (and selling us content as music, books etc.) they do not make money updating, maintaining software as mailprograms, browsers, spreadsheets etc. securityupdates - business support... ; it´s not apples business. better let their hardware customers free to buy good software from others, and keep to the good business making money on a brand and hardware.

then they of course have to bring a browser, mailclient etc. but not anything serious you could use as a pro.

the pro is now about the look and the price tag.

( sent from my 2 days old iMacPro.. :-)

i used thunderbird as a pro from 2009 to 2017.

it is smooth and easy going.

if you have an exchange account you have to pay for ExQuilla or simillar to get it going.

do not expect flawless integration in calendar etc.

two years ago i moved from thunderbird to "mail" and it worked fine until catalina.

now it's time for outlook - not that i am happy about it, but it seems best choice to me.
