In the new Mac osX CataIina I cannot find a way to change the columns viewed in Mail. You used to be able to change the field widths and add columns from the View/Columns menu. How can I accomplish this now?
Also, what does the black background TO next to the email title mean?
There are power users that should be given all chances to work quickly and efficiently...
The ones who don't know such ways will not suffer.
(similar: and there users with huge screens or even several of those who can stretch, resize, arrange windows or panels in all sorts of ways (not only Apple but also Adobe often come with those minimal consense screenestate windows where you need to scroll because you can't resize them ... sigh)
Let's hope they can move this downgrade of Apple Mail to an upgrade.

Ok, lets face it. The new Dev and product team at Apple for this product is comprised of first year programmers that cut corners because they don’t know how to write decent code. There is no way this was a design feature.
Aside from Apple's light bulb in the middle of the night of, 'Hey, Let's Make Mail Worse', I now discover attachments made today are not available in the attachment window. I have to close the window and drag and drop directly from the folder onto the email. I can only see files created up to yesterday from the attachment window. Is anyone else experiencing this?
we have a forum (is it the right word in English? Sorry, I am Russian) for 90.000 (ninety thousand) people. www.leprosorium.ru where we discuss this issue a lot. So I can definitely vote for thousands of people in this case. Deleting the columns makes us all to switch to another app, like Outlook, for example. So pity that Apple dies from the moment they decided the SD-card reader or MagSafe is useless.. I have big business and no column view makes Mail absolutely useless as well..

They brought back the physical escape key on the left side keyboard—removing it from the Touchbar due to Apple feedback.
Here's another kicker - move your SENT MAIL to another folder, and the TO: field disappears, basically rendering it USELESS.
I archive my SENT mail by year. So now all it says is FROM: (me), subject, and date. I contacted APPLE SUPPORT and they had no clue.

OK. That does it. I'm switching back to Microsoft Outlook in Office 365. We have had no response from Apple. Obviously they do not care. They have been degrading their software for years starting with iMovie 10 vs 9.09, Photos vs iPhoto, and now Mail with a multitude of problems when the Catalina upgrade(?) occurred.

Very sad that Tim Cook and Apple are more concerned about making movies and hanging around with the @realidiot than supporting their millions of loyal Apple Software users. This is very, very disappointing and annoying.

How many users does this benefit?
How about reading the support community posts and get Mail back to what it was. This probably effects thousands (maybe millions) of users.
to the brilliant minds at Apple....Catalina Mail is an example of a great company loosing touch with your everyday customers....
Mail is now a juvenile mail program and puts outlook as much as I hate to admit it...ahead

i have 16 years mail in local folders where i can search for old docs and conversations. it is very usefull in my job.
in catalina mail i can sort the mails "to" but only see "from" - that makes apple mail useless to me.
can you please tell me if apple intends to make it possible to use "classic view" again in the near future, or should i just use some days to export everything to outlook ?

Apple's stock prices might be going up but listening to their very loyal consumers who are very mad about Apple Mail NOT being fixed in this 10.15.3 update. There has been hundreds of complaints on this discussion list and also hundreds who have sent complaints to "Feedback"
you might all have done that, but since a change did not show up in 10.15.3 i think its too late to hope for change...
I sent a feedback report expressing my displeasure and dismay with the lack of control afforded by the revised column view, e.g., the inability to add/remove columns (Ex: enclosures/location folder) and sort by clicking on a column.
