Way to extract files from TM Backup from another Mac?

Earlier this week my 2mo old work iMac's HDD got corrupted. I took the iMac into an Apple store and they decided it needed a new hard drive. Luckily, I use Time Machine on a constant basis so I have a backup of all my work files.

However, while the iMac is in the shop for a week, I'm using a personal Macbook pro. I am great need to be able to extract some specific work files so I can continue working. Can this be done?

There is a possible kicker to this, the iMac runs on 10.6.4 while my Macbook Pro is running on 10.5.8. So I will be accessing a time machine backup from an older version of it. Is what I need still possible?

Okay, I think I solved my own question. I plugged in the ext HDD that stores the time machine backup for my work iMac into my personal macbook pro. Then I held down the option key and clicked on the Time Machine icon in the top main menu bar. "Browse Other Time Machine Disks" showed up and I was able to select the specific files I needed and then clicked on "Restore" and it asked me where to save them.
