Greetings!
I've tried to turn off as many sounds as possible on my phone, and some little things still make sounds even when I would prefer otherwise. Examples: tapping on keys in FB Messenger, various notifications making alert noises, etc. I'm a silent-mode person, and I'd prefer if my phone would cooperate.

Use the "mute" switch (above volume buttons, on left side of your device).

If you never used that switch, please read this note:
Ring/Silent (iPhone only): Use to mute sounds and alerts on your iPhone. If the switch shows orange, it means your iPhone is in silent mode and will vibrate for incoming calls or alerts. When in silent mode, the alarms you set in the Clock app will still sound, and calls from Favorite contacts will still ring.
