I love Dark Mode. But I hate it in Maps, which becomes almost unusable in Dark Mode. You cannot tell where the roads are, you cannot quickly see the map and the various routes. There needs to be a way to turn off Dark Mode selectively, at least in Maps.
I tested this by going into Display & Brightness settings and turning the phone to light mode, this then gave me my maps in light mode too.
For what I know there aren't any other options to turn maps into dark or light mode on a phone outside of the system wide setting of light or dark. Unless you have jailbroken and installed third party apps of course!

You can't. Only by switching to Light Mode for the entire phone.
If you go to the view menu in 'maps' there's an option to turn dark mode on and off irrespective of the system mode.
That should give you what you want.
Update: the menu item only shows up if you've turned on system-wide Dark Appearance in Preferences.
The setting isn't in iOS, it's in Mac OS. As far as I know you can't change maps in your phone to light while running system mode dark, but you can change it on your laptop which is what this thread is about. Turn off dark mode on your phone then everything will be in light mode, it's down to your choice.
I am using my iPhone XS Max and I can’t find the setting to turn off dark mode in maps. In my display setting dark mode is off but I am still getting dark mode in maps! Help, it’s getting frustrating! I’m gonna switch to google maps if this crap continues.
That’s the problem, my phone is NOT in dark mode... so why is my map in dark mode.
Maybe I've found out the reason why I don't have that option, despite having turned on Dark Mode.
It's because it's not the system-wide Dark Mode like you said, it's the "half" version that can be activated with Onyx.
It's more subtle as it only darkens the Dock/Menubar/Notification Center, but not the windows/applications.
I turned it on long ago as I love Dark Mode only in those places, then forgot about it all.
Since it's a half version, the system doesn't recognise it as true Dark Mode obviously.
So I don't get options like that one in Maps, since Maps remains Light to begin with.
Actually kinda stupid of me to expect that option, when I don't really need it anyways.
Also now I'm stuck with the subtle version, I can't get back to the native system-wide one.
Onyx is not yet available for Catalina, and I've already upgraded to Catalina.
I've tried switching to Light then Dark again in System Preferences > General...
Light goes full-on Light, but Dark remains subtle so I suppose I must disable it within Onyx.
Or is there a native way of resetting the half Dark Mode to the full version?
It's not a real issue, I can wait for the release of Onyx for Catalina...I'm just wondering.

That's strange. It should be under "Show Directions" and immediately before "Labels". It should say "Show Dark Map." Obviously if you don't want the Dark Map on, then you deselect it. It shows up for me both in Catalina and in Maps 2.1 in Mojave.
