I figured it out...

If you go into your Settings then Notes then Sort Checked Items, you can change it to sort Automatically. I ignored the option when it first popped up in my notes and it just took me awhile to figure it out. Apple’s discussion boards were no help as the links Apple shared to answer this question merely stated that it “can” be done, not how to do it. I hope this helps everyone.

Hi Dianne

I was able to get "move checked items automatically to end". You must add a new check item to the list.

  • With the list open, add a new check item to the bottom of the list.
  • Then select all the items in the list. Only the checked items not the heading or other text.
  • In the black pop up menu select the right arrow till you see Checklist select it.
  • You should see Move Ticked to Bottom & Delete Ticked.

If you do not add a new item to the check list, the black pop up menu has different options under Checklist.

Hope this works for you.

Sadly, that doesn't help me.

This morning when I opened notes I saw some popup alert about being able to automatically move checked items to the bottom of the list, but I dismissed it because I was trying to get down a confirmation number someone was giving me. It said something about being able to turn it on later, but I can't find where.

The pages you link to tell me that I _can_ do these things with notes & checklists, but not _how_ to actually do them. I finally figured out by poking around that by selecting the text of the checklist item I could get a "checklist" option alongside the standard text formatting on the popup menu. But when I use that on an unchecked item, the only option it gives me is to "check all".

If the item is already checked, I have the options to "check all", "uncheck all", "moved checked to bottom", or "delete checked"--but those only work once the item is checked off. If I have to check it off the item, then highlight it, and then send it to the end of the list, that hardly counts as "move checked items automatically to end".

I can find no setting to trigger this function. Selecting all the current items only gives me the "check all" option and no way to set this function for the list. Even starting a new note with a new checklist doesn't help.

What am I missing?
