catalina killed my MacBook pro

Hi all I have a 2014 MacBook Pro. Was running perfect with Mojave last night. I started the upgrade to Catalina and it’s now dead.

install process started ok and it got to the point of reboot. Now all I does is show the flashing folder with a question mark.

there are no boot chimes. I’ve tried to boot to recovery and that doesn’t work. Today I created a usb stick to boot from. Come home tonight and tried to boot with option key held down and it still doesn’t boot.

It appears to be a watchdog/timer non-activity kernel bug, when the caller to the kernel for sleep 3 mode entry status is called a panic occurs. At least this is what I gather from having reduced the surface area of the problem to a minimal environment and running in safe boot. My circumstance differs in that instead of a kernel exception, the power state is changed from on to off atomically (non-serial event delivery) and straight to "truly dark-mode".

Currently; newer system boardview schematics may not be available for service.. And some companies are intentionally make it difficult to replace a simple capacitor, or relay on whole system boards. We all know its the price we pay for all these expensive devices.

But think about it, If the wheels were welded directly on the axel of your car (and you could not remove it...) ; and you got a flat, would you replace the entire vehicle because the dealer is the only one that can repair it?

Thats basically what happens to the new logic boards, with welded on memory, wifi and hard drives encryptions on these newer laptops..

Same here, after the upgrade to Catalina, my late 2012 MacBook Pro (working perfectly after all those years) now only shows a black screen after installation and restart. Fans are running. Unplugging and disconnecting the battery brought it to life again. Cmd-Option-R only resulted in an internet restore. Whatever I do Catalina keeps returning its ugly head. From what I read it seems we are not the only ones having the same problem. Is this a strategy to force people to replace their computers?

Hello guys. It is problem from Catalina Update. Catalina damaged efi firmware on logic board. I have same problem in my Mac Pro 2013, when I update to Catalina I receive black screen. But we have 2 Mac Pro 2013 and we create dump firmware efi from logic board from working Mac Pro, after we flash firmware on damaged Mac Pro through special programmer which I buy on Ali express for 5$. and after this manipulation my Mac Pro alive. I hope this information helps you.

P.S. Before my manipulation I call in apple service and they say me that need replace logic board for 600$. And say that I myself to blame for this problem. But im say him that my Mac Pro will live before update to Catalina, but they didn't care.
