Mac Os Catalina do not sync photos with iOS Devices

Im using Mac OS Catalina 10.15, I have my photos on the Photos App, (I do not use iCloud photos).

To sync the photos, I connect the iPad to the Mac, open Finder (Since iTunes is gone), select the iPad from (locations) go to the right and click on Photos, select the albums and then hit sync. All the photos are not synced and apparently it syncs the albums under the root "My Albums" but is not able to sync the albums that are inside a folder.

I have the same sync problem, won't sync albums/folders below the root level (nested). This is all very similar to the sync problems introduced when iOS11 first came out in September of 2017. Could not complete any photo syncing from iTunes to iPad or iPhone. It took Apple 7 months to fix it. 7 months. So very frustrating. C'mon Apple, did you not learn from past mistakes?

I have noticed another thing about the Albums that do Sync on your iphone or iPad. If you select any of the Photos in "From My Mac" that have been Synced to your iOS padOS device and try to select them to be a Wallpaper, send them to the Files app or attach them to a messaging app, notes or email it completely crashes the Photo's App. Anyone else experience that too?

The only way I have been able to sync (I also have sub folders) is to uncheck photos and remove them. Delete the iPhone photo cache folder from the folder you’re syncing from on the Mac, and then research sync photos. It takes a while I have 12,000+), but it works.

the down side is that you have to do this every time you sing, and you have to do with with each device, even if they are syncing from the same folder.

It’s been about 6 months. For a company that is so excited about their camera opportunities, they aren’t thinking about the whole picture.

As I’ve said, unacceptable.

That's right - I know I've said this already but I had to "downgrade" to an earlier version of iTunes and was able to sync just fine after that in Mojave.

I'm experimenting now with sync (was able to do about 25k of photos in almost 12 hours yesterday - made a few changes to test, and now nothing's changing (so I'm confirming what you said above). Totally unacceptable.

I've reached out to a journalist who writes about Apple, so am hoping for some info in the near future.

That's interesting. I upgraded to Mojave when it was available, but did not have any problems with the syncing. The problem didn't start until I upgraded to Catalina. As I noted before, when I called Apple Support, the engineers did not see this as a big issue. Maybe it only happens for a percentage of users?

Apple,

Please, please fix this problem. I really need to be able to organize photos and videos on my MBP into specific folders and then sync those folders to my iPhone accordingly, as I have done for many years until Catalina came out. This is definitely a Catalina OS problem. Please fix this problem ASAP. I am a loyal, committed Apple customer, but this problem is EXTREMELY frustrating. Please get this fixed ASAP!

Hi, I had the same problem however, all that was necessary in the end to do to solve it was to change the Photos settings to sync on iCloud: 1. open the Photos app, 2. go to 'System Preferences' 3. go to 'iCloud' 4. check 'Photos on iCloud'.

The operational system on my Macbook is in Czech therefore I'm not 100 % sure if I translated the individual steps in the process exactly as it is in English but I suppose it won't be too different.

I'm Glad (and disappointed) i'm not imagining things and im not the only one experiencing this. given both my devices exhibit the same symptoms many others mus be experiencing this as well. I'm beyond frustrated with this. FFS this is their (Apple) own IN HOUSE OS's (iOS,padOS,MacOS) , Hardware (MBP,MB,iPhone,iPad) and software (photos app desktop and mobile). There is nothing third party about this and they still manage to F this up majorly. And worse they do not acknowledge anywhere that this is a problem. How did this ever pass acceptance testing and made available for General release. This is such a poor experience but for many users .We simply can't just and easiliy migrate our lifelong collection of memories and media to another platform. We need to have the TRUST that they can deliver.

I too have spent a couple of hours with apple support - upto level 3! with this issue. My original problem was not being able to sync a new album of photos. After two hours of help all my synced albums were removed from my iPad!!

The suggestion was to update both iPad and Mac operating systems so I am now on iPad 13.1.3 and I have updated the Mac also but it still calls itself 10.15.

So I have tried again syncing and it does sort of work but only small sized photos are synced such as one taken on an iPhone or and old camera that only produced 4mb files. More recent photos taken on a Nikon which creates 20mb files were not transferred.

So some improvement but Apple still need to work on this

Yes I am experiencing this same issue - crashing photos when trying to use pics in message, etc. - along with all the other issues related to syncing photos from my Mac to my iPad or iPhone ever since the move to Catalina.

I too have contacted Apple Support 3x and currently have an open ticket. Spoke directly with a Sr. Advisor who stated that I am not the only one with this issue and that it has been escalated to Engineering to address.

I will update this thread if I get a response or a fix to this.
