Mac Os Catalina do not sync photos with iOS Devices

Im using Mac OS Catalina 10.15, I have my photos on the Photos App, (I do not use iCloud photos).

To sync the photos, I connect the iPad to the Mac, open Finder (Since iTunes is gone), select the iPad from (locations) go to the right and click on Photos, select the albums and then hit sync. All the photos are not synced and apparently it syncs the albums under the root "My Albums" but is not able to sync the albums that are inside a folder.

I also reported the problem to both links but forgot to mention not being able to see the status although I did tell that to the tech support person I had spoken to.

I know that some found that moving the albums out of folders to directly under the My Albums worked but that then gives more issues. I would have to rename each album so I would know what year the albums belongs to.

Apple today released Catalina 10.15.2 Beta to developers, I did get my hopes up because photos.app version updated, however sadly still the same problem for me.

I was really hoping that they might have addressed this problem. How many people does it take for them to do something? I find it hard to believe that this problem is "hard to fix", its probably one little line or code ... when you think about other technologies that Apple develop, besides.. this function was here before!.

Honestly, I'm starting to lose my f**** mind over this.

Yes I have reported the problem too......

10.15.2 certainly didn't work for me i have restarted, reset phone, deleted "iPod cache" .. and nothing. The problem is, to go back to Mojave, I have already migrated everything to Apple Music App, and Apple TV app, Audio Books etc, its taken me weeks to get all my multimedia where I want it, only to find this syncing issue. I'm really angry about this. Getting Apple's attention feels like the impossible.

This continues to be super frustrating...

I tried another workaround - using AirDrop to send the photos from my Mac to my iPhone. I'm aware that this wouldn't retain the actual albums, but at least I'd get all the photos onto my phone. But even that doesn't really work with Catalina - AirDrop is usually very fast and reliable, but it just doesn't work for anything more than 40 or so photos. Even if I create Smart Folders to break things up into smaller batches (say 3-6 months), the photos simply won't sync.

I've also reported this as a bug to Apple but no movement on either issue.

Can I respectfully suggest you start separate discussions (or find existing ones) for your other issues (column browser and the remote) so that people with those issues can participate in discussions on them? I think it's best to keep this to synching photos only, and besides, people with those two issues probably wouldn't be looking to THIS thread to discuss them.

Maybe you already have done this, if so, then that's good!

No disrepect intended, just a suggestion. 😀

Never mind Squiddz, I totally agree. Actually, I’m following other two discussions about ”Music Column browser” and “Apple remote app not working after Catalina update”. Moreover, I’ve sent my feedbacks to Apple for all these issues. I just wanted to understand whether anyone else, in this discussion, had detected the same set of problems that I did, maybe due to a specific combination of hardware and software.

Thank you anyway, suggestions are always welcome!

Posted early on and have been reading most our messages.

Has anyone been able to confirm if the issue is with Catalina or iOS 13? Did anyone try iOS 12 or 11 on Catalina?

For me, I spent the last two weeks starting from scratch: reinstalled Mojave 10.14.3 with iTunes 12.9.2.5 on an external bootable drive, and rebuilding the photos library there, album by album, via airdropping albums from Catalina on my MBP to Mojave on the external drive connected to my iMac. Finished last night, and will clone the external drive back to my MBP.

I absolutely will not upgrade to Catalina again, or even Mojave 10.14.6 or a newer iTunes version, until there is confirmation the bug is fixed.

However, I worry the issue lies now on iOS 13.....

the conundrum....

I delayed upgrading to Catalina because I needed to redevelop a 32-bit music application MIDI Patchbay to support Catalina's 64-bit-only architecture.

Therefore I upgraded my iPhone X and iPad Pro to iOS13 first. The problem first reared its head then, between Mojave and iOS13.

I expected Catalina to fix the problem, but it made it worse due to the lack of a detailed status bar.

Generally, every time there is a reasonably major iOS release (and that's way too often these days IMO), I've started needing to roll my sleeves up with my photos.

I can now sync my albums on Mac Photos to my iPad Air, 3rd generation from my MBP (15 inch, late 2013). I am running latest versions if iOS and MacOS.

it us verrryyy slow, even with no photos to sync. It seems to be syncing something to the iPad but no evidence of new images after the sync.

i am now finding that the photos sync’ed are not readable in the new Photoshop for iPad app. It seems that all my imported from mac photos are not readable, whereas all the photo stream or recents are. This may be a Photoshop bug, but more likely it’s part of the same issue this stream is following.

I can't download my photos from my mac onto my iPhone, or iPad, and all the albums that were on them, have now disappeared.

They are still on my Mac, but whenever I tick the appropriate album boxes to carry them over to my other devices, it doesn't do anything.

And I lost all my emails when I installed Catalina.

I have spoke directly to Apple, and although they tried hard to help, we got nowhere.

Its unbelievable Apple would launch something like this Catalina OS update, and not test it properly. It has so many bugs, upset so many of their users, and I am shocked they have not thrown everything at it to fix it immediately.

Its a complete disaster and as a result, I am now not likely to download anything else from Apple, until it has an all clear confirmation.

So sad, when I had so much trust in them.

Well don't hold your breath for a fix from Apple. How many of you folks were around when this very similar issue occurred with the release of iOS 11 in Sept of 2017? Not able to sync photos (broken) to iPhone/ipad via iTunes. And it didn't get fixed until April of 2018! 7 months after the initial release of iOS11! Shame on me for upgrading to Catalina. Should have searched these forums first.

SUCCESS! I posted earlier about having the same issue of not being able to sync photos from my MacBook Pro to my iPhone since upgrading to Catalina. Unlike many others though, I was not able to sync albums whether in or out of a subfolder. I have had no photos on my iPhone for the past month with the exception of Recents and Camera Roll. Two days ago, after downloading 10.15.1 for my Mac and iOS 13.2.2 for my phone, I once again attempted to Sync Selected albums and chose a single album above the subfolder line, then a single album under the subfolder and finally selected Sync All Photos and Albums. Once again I was disappointed to see that they didn't sync. I opened up Photos on my phone today and my albums are back! I usually have separate albums dedicated to synching to my iPhone as I don't need to hold the entire 41,000/106GB library but I'm not touching anything for now. Fingers crossed there is now a solution or it will coming soon for everyone.
