Mac Os Catalina do not sync photos with iOS Devices

Im using Mac OS Catalina 10.15, I have my photos on the Photos App, (I do not use iCloud photos).

To sync the photos, I connect the iPad to the Mac, open Finder (Since iTunes is gone), select the iPad from (locations) go to the right and click on Photos, select the albums and then hit sync. All the photos are not synced and apparently it syncs the albums under the root "My Albums" but is not able to sync the albums that are inside a folder.

Wow. Brilliant. It won't help everyone, but this helped me. I only wanted two folders of photos on my iPhone, the one of our cats and another album of selected photos. So, by moving those albums to sit under 'My Albums' instead of being sub-folders, I was finally able to get the photos I wanted on my iPhone.

Maybe this trick will help some others as well: if you can live with just a few albums on your phone, move them under 'My Albums' and then synch your iPhone through Finder.

Thanks Diego!!!

Keep in mind that any fix is going to be part of a bundle update release which is not going to be something issued every day. This is one of many items that many teams of programmers are left correcting. Yes, it has been hugely annoying that this issue has persisted for three months now. But such is the speed of tech. Barring a security patch or other potential PR disaster, we are going to wait.

Hi, I also made this observation. Syncing same album on 3 different devices give you 3 different numbers of images synced. So it looks like Apple has some issues here with the til now very stable iOS device sync algorithm they implemented into finder to switch away from iTunes. But regardless of the inconvenience this produces there is always collateral damage if you phase out software which has been around for so long like iTunes was. Thats no apology for bad software testing ;-).

This bug is known since more than 12 months far before Catalina with apple. I have reported it several times.

I assume that there is simply no interest for apple fixing it: Apple is focused to increase their paid "services": As you all know the icloud sync works well and will generate money which helps to fulfill their financial targets in opposite to the free sync via cable.

I’m not “dealing with it” because it’s not an issue for me anymore. As I wrote before, I bought 200 GB space and switched to iCloud Photos a month ago. It’s working smoothly like never before. I don’t need to sync my devices for any reason anymore.

I wrote my last one because, I’m not happy to resolve this with paying more money to Apple. It’s break my heart because, I’m using Apple products for 20+ years and it’s so sad to see Steve Jobs’s company, which I guess we all admire here, acting this way.

Although others have said they had a similar issue with Mojave, I, like you, never did. Since I updated the my devices at the same time I updated my computer, I can't honestly say which is the problem child. All I know is that it a pain now to have to duplicate & move my albums in Photos in order to get them on my devices.

I know that Apple is aware of the issues going on and I can only hope that it gets corrected soon. Too many things can go wrong trying to go back to Mojave at this point.

Interesting question.

I don’t know that you can sync LR to your iPhone or iPad.

I have given up trying to sync, instead I decided to use LR to catalog & metadata my images and I use PhotoStation on my small Synology Server instead of Photos. Again, it does not solve the syncing problem but it sure does solve the aggravation problem.

Needless to say, I am more than disappointed in Apple (and myself for trusting the upgrade).

After my fifth report of this issue to Apple, and getting yet another level two tech support with zero knowledge of the issue, she suggested that I fill out https://www.apple.com/feedback/macos.html which is feedback that Apple actually read instead of wasting our time here, because that is al we are really doing here. We may as well be ******* into the wind for all the good complaining on this forum is doing, but if everybody starts filling out an actual bug report we can at least cross our fingers and hold our breath waiting for something to happen.

I just tried to sync photos again with latest iOS & Mac OS, but its still not working.

For me it seems that Photos in general is not working correctly with linked photos (stored e.g. on USB, SD or NAS).

E.g. when you try to use your photos library in Mac OS settings for screensaver, i can only see the photos that are also synced to my iphone.

> But this is only 5% of all my photos.

Maybe someone can confirm this behavoir.
