Mac Os Catalina do not sync photos with iOS Devices

Im using Mac OS Catalina 10.15, I have my photos on the Photos App, (I do not use iCloud photos).

To sync the photos, I connect the iPad to the Mac, open Finder (Since iTunes is gone), select the iPad from (locations) go to the right and click on Photos, select the albums and then hit sync. All the photos are not synced and apparently it syncs the albums under the root "My Albums" but is not able to sync the albums that are inside a folder.

Wow. Brilliant. It won't help everyone, but this helped me. I only wanted two folders of photos on my iPhone, the one of our cats and another album of selected photos. So, by moving those albums to sit under 'My Albums' instead of being sub-folders, I was finally able to get the photos I wanted on my iPhone.

Maybe this trick will help some others as well: if you can live with just a few albums on your phone, move them under 'My Albums' and then synch your iPhone through Finder.

Thanks Diego!!!

Hey all! I have a similar issue. I plug in my phone, open photos, and import all new photos. I then open finder, and click sync, but instead of sending over the new photos as it usually would, it deleted 8-10k of the photos on my device, then syncs them all back taking an hour plus. Lastly, I'm curious if anyone else is encountering that they cannot share photos from the photos app on their phone at all? I tried from the "from my Mac", photos, albums, etc. and when I click share, I could click airdrop, iMessage, mail, etc. and it just crashes the app. I even wiped the device entirely and started from scratch (did not restore from backup), and it didn't fix anything.

Update: I have just updated my iPad Pro 11 inch from padOS 13.1 and padOS 13.2. And that has fixed this issue at least . So there is one less problem going forward at least. I does appear that apple do know about these problems even though they do not publicly acknowledge them.

This is for the issue where the “Photos App” crashes on the i/padOS device when trying to use a photo in the “From My Mac” synced albums to another application like Notes, Messaging and setting wallpaper etc

I first contacted support 18 days ago. After hours of unsuccessful attempts to rectify the situation, screen captures were uploaded and sent to the engineering department last week. None of my albums will transfer whether they are in the main album directory or in a subfolder. The only things that transfer are My Photo Stream, Recents (from the past 602 days), Wallpaper, Video for Upload and 10% of the photos of one particular album that I'm not trying to sync. Just sitting here with the rest of you waiting for a response. Perhaps Apple should provide free iCloud storage until the problem is resolved.

Yes, photos on my iMac does not sync to my iPhone and iPad correctly.

Still. After yesterday’s 13.2 and today’s 10.15.1 update!

I talked with Apple Care a week before. They transfered me to a senior, senior told me she passed this to engineering team yada yada yada. 2 hours wasted and no solution. After all talks, they told me they aware of this issue and I should wait for an update.

I waited for a Catalina update. After 13.2 update for iOS, Catalina update 10.15.1 came today.

Still no fix. Still not syncing my photos under subfolder, just albums on main root are syncing.

Why Apple, why?

Thanks for the update.

I have successfully moved photos from Mac to iPad using shared albums. I then save the shared photos to the iPad and create a new album. All this requires a lot of selecting each photo in turn and is very tedious. Also as far as I can tell iTunes optimised the photo sizes for the idevice. There is after all no point in putting a 20 mpx photo on a screen that has a 5 mpx display you are just using up storage space for no useful purpose but this what happens using my suggested work around and I suspect your suggestion also. So it is this optimisation process that engineers forgot when discontinuing iTunes and replacing the photo syncing process to Finder.

I have already updated the iPad to 13.2 as we speak the Mac is updating to Catalina 10.15.1 we may have to wait for 10.15.2!

Just hope it works.

I did repair my library too, not even knowing that was possible. Sadly, it did the same. It syncs all but the last few thousand (I have ~18k photos) but stops. It allows me to eject, so it thinks it's done, but it's still actively sending the photos over to the phone until it just hangs. I also wonder how much is related not to the syncing but to the fact that it reindexed all photos for Catalina. The reason I ask is, I have a "Best of last month" album that photos curated for me, and although the photos information (date) is right, there are photos from May, June, etc. in my "Best of last month" photo collaboration made by photos.

Yes on the cost, but the more people switch to cloud, less incentive for Apple to fix this problem. There have been multiple postings in this thread that suggested this is Apple's intent. For me, cost is secondary. I also don't use it for my photos for various reasons, including security. This in only one of many issues with Catalina. For example, they got rid of column browsers in Music. Apple, if you are monitoring this thread, you may win some clients for cloud, but there are also many of us who are at the end of our rope. The problems have now snow balled enough that I will likely wean myself off the Apple ecosystem. I've held off on buying an iPhone 11 and for sure my next PC will not be a Mac.

I will never use iCloud for my photos!!!

The reason? It's simple.

In iCloud... or all photos in the cloud and on all devices or none.

But on my iMac I store ALL my photos including working photos and I handle them with Photo app. But on my device I only want my personal photos that are in specific folders and albums. Also.... If I have a very privare photo taken on my iPhone I do not want it is available on my iMac

Synching from iMac Photo app do it. Synching from iCloud NO.

So, never never my photos will be in the Cloud until Apple handle them as they do it now
