Mac Os Catalina do not sync photos with iOS Devices

Im using Mac OS Catalina 10.15, I have my photos on the Photos App, (I do not use iCloud photos).

To sync the photos, I connect the iPad to the Mac, open Finder (Since iTunes is gone), select the iPad from (locations) go to the right and click on Photos, select the albums and then hit sync. All the photos are not synced and apparently it syncs the albums under the root "My Albums" but is not able to sync the albums that are inside a folder.

I agree that although annoying, the fix will come as part of a bundled update. According to my conversation with Apple's corporate office, the correction may be part of a bundle yet not be mentioned in the description of what the bundle includes. I was just happy to hear that they are aware of the issue and are working on correcting it.

I agree with Patti, and I am also calm if they are working on it, I have waited with each Catalina update packet, on the other hand as steve_p said, I have verify that if you synchronize all, everything is copied to the device. Just confirm that is folder problem.

if it is not too much to ask that the package containing the fix mention it in the description, as a santa wish...

Since Xmas has passed, I certainly hope we don't have to wait until next Xmas for that wish.

Based on what I was told for a work around, I can only assume the the issue is a folder issue. I have duplicated albums that reside in folders and have then moved that duplicate album so that it resides directly under My Albums and this was confirmed to me as the work around that would suggest.

I just going to install each update as they come out and hope for the best.

Hello... I’m on the same boat here with you all. My iPhone 7 Plus (iOS 13.3) is not showing my 3 selected specific favorite folders, on the iPhone Photos App, when I try to sync my selected photo folders from my Late-2015 5k iMac (10.15.2). It started happening, right when I upgraded to Catalina a few months ago. Music, Podcasts, Movies all sync, with no problem at all. It’ all the photo folders that are not syncing. I’m sure Apple with fix this issue, in the next update. It is very frustrating though, because I use these photo folders often, for personal and business use. They obviously know about it, from reading some of these posts. Happy New Year to you all.

Patti - like everyone here I am having the Album in Folder sync issue, but I’m wondering are you also having random duplicates show up in the synced Albums that are under My Albums? I usually have this issue after a 2nd sync attempt of those albums when they usually had been updated with additional pics. I know others have mentioned this issue - along with random “blank” solid white or solid black pics appearing along with the random duplicates on the iOS devices - but again, usually after a second sync attempt when the Album has had additional images added - though I’ve also had it happen even if no changes were made to the Albums that were previously synced. My testing of this has been less methodical than I used to do since I don’t want to waste any more time on these issues than I already have and each sync takes an hour or so.

I've been very nervous about doing a second sync but gave it a go this afternoon; adding 10 albums (2018 & 2019). Certainly took much longer than when I was running Mojave.

I did not run into any issues with blanks or duplicates in albums I had already transferred to my phone but it did come up with some strange sorting. Under "From My Mac" - People, it sorted them randomly; some with names I never used. However, also "From My Mac", the album for the individuals that are also in People, are correct.

Patti - I too finally got the nerve to synch my iPhone 11 Pro again. I added a couple more albums (duplicated from those under folders) . These duplicates now ARE NOT UNDER FOLDERS.

I went OK. Took longer than I expected but the new albums showed up and i do not see duplicates.

So I went ahead and did the same for my 2017 iPad. That worked OK too.

EXCEPT - At the end of the sych the phone shows 5.6GB of photos while the iPad shows almost 17GB. AND THEY HAVE THE SAME PHOTOS.

I did see some posts on the board that others have encountered the storage calculation issue.

Bottom line, the work around of pulling albums from under folders seems to work here but there are some strange things going on with Catalina synching using Finder.

Hi, I also made this observation. Syncing same album on 3 different devices give you 3 different numbers of images synced. So it looks like Apple has some issues here with the til now very stable iOS device sync algorithm they implemented into finder to switch away from iTunes. But regardless of the inconvenience this produces there is always collateral damage if you phase out software which has been around for so long like iTunes was. Thats no apology for bad software testing ;-).

Hi

Local sync has also stopped since I upgraded to Catalina. Same problem with both iPhone and iPad. In my case all photos are in albums that are in top level (My albums).

Did call Apple support today. We discovered its related to that photos are not in the Library. I have this option unchecked (add to library when import). Also my photos are on a NAS connected with SMB (AFP tested too).

After collecting photos to Library the sync works again!

Note: A related problem is Places. It does only work with photos in library. Very strange too is that places works via Persons.

To many workarounds for my taste. I hope Apple shape up since this was all working fine in Mojave.

Sorry, I'm Swiss and don't speak Englisch very well: Does iTunes really still work on your Mac?? I have on my iMac installed MacOS Catalina (10.15.2). Here iTunes doesn't exist anymore; it's now called Music and belongs only for Music (Version 1.0.2.37). If I plug in my iPad (6. generation; 13.3), I have to go to the Finder, where appears the iPad-Sign. Here appears first "General"

and on the rigth also "Photos". Here I choose "Selected Albums" and then the "Albums" I want.

So that the Albums can be copied on the iPad, I have to do first the following in the App "Photos" (where all my Photos are):

Here I find the Album "My Albums", where all my Photos are in "Folders" and "Albums" (I copied this from the old Programm iPhoto). If an Album is in an Folder, I make a duplicate of the Album an put the Album out of the Folder directly under "My Album". Than it appears in the Finder (see before) and I can copy it on the iPad.

In the meantime (Jan 13, 9.29 am) Patti has posted two screenshots, where you can see, how it looks like.
