Mac Os Catalina do not sync photos with iOS Devices

Im using Mac OS Catalina 10.15, I have my photos on the Photos App, (I do not use iCloud photos).

To sync the photos, I connect the iPad to the Mac, open Finder (Since iTunes is gone), select the iPad from (locations) go to the right and click on Photos, select the albums and then hit sync. All the photos are not synced and apparently it syncs the albums under the root "My Albums" but is not able to sync the albums that are inside a folder.

Hi there

iCloud will make no difference as Catalina and new iOS updates will not sync photos to all devices via the cloud.

I have spent countless hours with Apple consultant trying to find solution...but no success.

Have just sent log files to them having run diagnostic software for over 24 hours while making specific changes to Photos albums etc. so they can try and see what the problem is. Hoping for an answer as this is most frustrating.

Apple’s new OS has destroyed something which worked extremely well till end of September.

This smacks of issues few years ago when they ruined iTunes syncing and forced us to pay for iCloud to sync photos.

Wonder what hidden agenda is behind this problem?

That’s the whole point. They want you to pay for the photos syncing service by putting all your photos on iCloud so they can charge you for something that should be free!

funny enough. Till now. If you create a photo folder on your iPhone. Photos on your. Mac still does not recognize it. If you sync manually. But guess what ? If you are a paying subscriber to iCloud. It is! Magic right?

The lack of response from Apple to an issue that has continued now for some time is totally unacceptable. As a Mac user with numerous Apple products which I expect to synch this is a real issue. Without Photos working why am i any better off than I would be leaving Apple and going to Adobe on a PC?

Come on Apple - at least acknowledge there is an issue and make a statement as to whether you intend fixing it. Then all those on this posting know whether to keep trying!

That sounds all to familiar. Neither my iPhone XR nor iPad Pro will sync with Catalina either through photos or finder. The only thing that works is partioning my 1 tb ssd on my Mac Pro so that part of it is mojave & part Catalina (pending Apple getting their act together)

I logged Mojave through my wife’s Apple ID so no conflict with registration, I can add or delete photos on my iOS devices via Mojave whist everything else so far is on Catalina.

it’s not an elegant solution but I do have pictures on both devices now where’s Catalina just screws it all up. All new pictures are stored in photos on Catalina, I transfer any I want either through shared albums or on a memory pen.

I may revert fully to Mojave in time but not given up on Apple just yet fool that I am.🤪

Fix. Temporary Workaround. I could not get a new video to show up in Finder either, or drag it into Final Cut or iMovie or Screenflow. So, I ignored Finder and selected to edit the video from Photos dropdown menu to QT. I then exported from QT to another folder. From there I could drag it into any video app and avoid using Finder.

Hope this helps.

Hi all,

i dont think that apple will fix this issue soon, so i started debugging the process of ios sync & photos.

Photos shows 45.152 pictures linked to my library (but stored externally on SD/USB), which is fine.

When a sync is started, the AMP processes seems to triggers photos and directory "iPod Photo Cache" is created (withinin library). All photos of "iPod Photo Cache" are correctly synced to iOS, but this is only a small size (1.326 pictures of 45.152).

I am still investigating, why photos just notices this some pictures.

Using a new photos library using a different user-profile on macosx worked fine (using just "some" pictures).

Enabling debug mode i can see that only 1326 pictures are captured....:

informationen AMPDevicesAgent 20:08:27.633780+0100 totals> totalPhotos = 1326, totalPhotoBytes = 1828373856 (1.70 GB)

A few questions:

1) is anyone on iOS beta and MacOS beta that could tell us if it’s working? Thus giving us some hope?!

2). If I just rake a folder and call it “photos” then place my photo library by date into that folder, then change the sync tab in finder to “folder” instead of the photos app being what I am synchronizing, does that work? That wouldn’t be ideal but would at least allow me to export my library, put it into a folder, then sync that folder?

UPDATE:

Since my drive was failing, it was at 9% health, I had the shop put a fresh copy of Mojave on my iMac.

The machine is super fast now, however, all of the albums I’ve spent decades building are lost. The images are not, but the albums and filling are.

Basically, a 2nd disaster, with the 1st being Catalina and the sync issue.

So all, proceed with caution if you value you iPhotos/Photos app.

Good Luck!

I don’t think there is an expected bug fix. Nobody has really received a clear answer on this. Many on this list have contacted Apple. Unless we can somehow get the entire Apple community to start talking about this and complaining, somehow affect their sales, nothing is planned. Apple wants us all to upgrade to iCloud storage and put our photos there. I’m drawing the line on this and will find a different service, Google, Flickr, Lightroom, moving forward. Apple has disappointed me too many times with their changes, killing of products, lack of bug fixes, etc. How can this small group make this a cause that goes viral and makes this affect Apple sales? Every week Apples stock goes higher and higher. They don’t care about this small group complaining. I sold my Apple stock out of spite, but I’m one person.

@Javajack:

Fully‘agree to your statement. At the next possible occasion I will replace my Apple Gadget (MacBookPro) iPhone, iPad) with alternatives.

Share Price is the only thing that matters and the team in leadership positions & Apple don‘t understand the importance to promote customer loyalty. The only innovation in the last years had been new sizes of phones and pads. Wow!

I'm sorry but at the moment (begin 2020) Cellular Data is still too expensive to depend on the Cloud services. At least in Europe.

I work usually with 80 Gb of music and 50 Gb of pictures (I don't need all time the 130 Gb, but randomly yes!), much of my time away from home, on places where Wifi is not available or it's too slow or insecure. It's way too soon yet. Also, the Cloud services have their own privacy risks. I'm sorry, but it's way too soon for this.

I also spoke to a senior advisor back in November who said they were working on resolving the issue, I can't believe it takes this long! Also when you copy and paste items that you want to put in album folders you have created what it does it copies and pastes the first one, if you then choose another for a different album it pastes the new one you had just chosen and the old one that was for the other folder and so on, another glitch I was told!! Lastly when you then sync albums to your iPad of iPhone for some folders it doesn't sync all the photo's so I have a few albums one has 887 pictures (including video's) and another 281 so on my iPhone and pad I only have 869 and 280 with some blank photo's! Never happened before, rate of time and money, we spend thousands and what annoys me is the old phrase if it ain't broken don't fix it. Apple should stop meddling and leave things that work perfectly instead of annoying their customers, cause they will loose them in the long run!
