Mac Os Catalina do not sync photos with iOS Devices

Im using Mac OS Catalina 10.15, I have my photos on the Photos App, (I do not use iCloud photos).

To sync the photos, I connect the iPad to the Mac, open Finder (Since iTunes is gone), select the iPad from (locations) go to the right and click on Photos, select the albums and then hit sync. All the photos are not synced and apparently it syncs the albums under the root "My Albums" but is not able to sync the albums that are inside a folder.

Wow. Brilliant. It won't help everyone, but this helped me. I only wanted two folders of photos on my iPhone, the one of our cats and another album of selected photos. So, by moving those albums to sit under 'My Albums' instead of being sub-folders, I was finally able to get the photos I wanted on my iPhone.

Maybe this trick will help some others as well: if you can live with just a few albums on your phone, move them under 'My Albums' and then synch your iPhone through Finder.

Thanks Diego!!!

You do know that this forum is "staffed" by volunteer users, not by Apple? I've learnt a huge amount from these volunteers, for which I thank them.

I'm surprised at your rant (although not at your dissatisfaction with Photos), specially as it seems you've posted only twice, including this rant. If I were you I'd stay and learn something.

I agree this thread has provided little value. Especially if Apple themselves are not monitoring it or providing updates on the “bug” report. I’ve felt for some time now that this is a deliberate change to force people into iCloud support the same way Apple Music was introduced to eliminate iTunes. That’s fine for Apple. I understand the business decision but as a consumer I’m deeply disappointed. I’ve gone on the recommendation of many and ordered a Synology NAS. At very least it will provide redundancy. At best their photo app will replace the non functioning Apple Photos app.

Well written and I don't blame you for leaving this forum. You certainly have not received any help from this forum, as there appears to be no solution to the problem. We have not heard one peep out of Apple on this matter, one voice of reason to give us hope that this will ever be resolved. They have put so many of us through pain with our photo libraries without resolution.

I think of all the video and photo software companies I'm involved in and how those companies join in on discussions and help to resolve user issues, but not Apple. They are in their little glass house and nobody can actually talk to them. If you book an appointment with a so called expert, it's like this is the first time they are hearing about this issue. Obviously they don't use Apple products or they would know first hand. How very frustrating this is, having been an Apple user since 1989, a holder of their stock, but no more. Thanks a lot for your lack of support on this, Apple. I know this message will be sanitized, deleted immediately. Maybe a few will read it.

Apple does not provide this here in this community. If they are aware of the issue, and I am sure they are, they will not speak to it here.

The community is a place for non Apple employees to volunteer their time and effort to answer technical support questions. If "we" don't have an answer, one won't be provided. This issue is clearly an example of this.

So basically are you suggesting that we should be quiet, polite and don't complain about a huge problem that a lot of people are experiencing?

Show me where I said or implied this?

I am merely pointing out that no amount of threatening, stamping of feet or calling out Apple will change the purpose and function of this community.

I found very rude and wrong that nobody "official" from Apple is participating to this forum, especially on hot topic like this.

Tell them how you feel.

Feedback for Apple goes here >>> http://www.apple.com/feedback/

You agreed to terms to be here, and Apple clearly stated in those terms they do not necessarily provide support here. "They" are here to preserve the peace, but not speak to an individual ongoing issue such as this.

That 100s, 1000s or even 10s of thousands are affected does not change this. Not my rule.

they are aware - they have done nothing for solve the issue - sort of my point really

Not disputing this. Not disputing you all have the right to be upset or disappointed. Not defending Apple.

Educating to those who chime in without regard to the purpose of this community.

Although Apple does indeed host this place, they do so with a mandate.

I accept this is not desired or popular. It is the reality.

Then here is a novel idea (which is in no way aimed at the very helpful users on this forum)

Why doesn't the administrator of this forum/thread just close it and put a message at the top saying.

"Catalina does not sync photos with iOS devices.

Do not waste your time trying to find workarounds for this issue - there aren't any.

Do not waste your time "ranting" because Apple is not listening and either is not going to fix it, doesn't want to fix it, or is incapable of fixing it."

Thanks PJ,

sensible suggestion. These problems (plural) are not going to be fixed via this forum. Some people have received help but the problem is too complex to fix for everyone. Maybe one day Apple will fully address people's EXISTING Photos syncing/corruption problems???

Perhaps keep this forum topic open but ALSO post your very sensible warning ON EVERY PAGE!!!

Thanks all.

Problem after problem.

i thought I would try go around the problem at my own expense and create two libraries in different user accounts so me and my wife could both access accounts using icloud- an expense I shouldn’t be forced too.

to do this I copied main library to external and then deleted all my old uni pictures then would use this for her library on her login. However the library won’t shrink. It shows as the same size! How do I fix this? If I copy this library again I can see it is 30gb smaller than original but once finishes says it is identical to original.

even working around the issue and paying for iCloud isn’t smooth

I’ll look at it. I started trying to replace my photos with Google photos but it seemed to be duplicating everything on my phone, which I definitely didn’t want. I want a service where I can place predefined and organized albums on my phone that is not necessarily a part of my camera roll, which is just recent, random photos.
