Mac Os Catalina do not sync photos with iOS Devices

Im using Mac OS Catalina 10.15, I have my photos on the Photos App, (I do not use iCloud photos).

To sync the photos, I connect the iPad to the Mac, open Finder (Since iTunes is gone), select the iPad from (locations) go to the right and click on Photos, select the albums and then hit sync. All the photos are not synced and apparently it syncs the albums under the root "My Albums" but is not able to sync the albums that are inside a folder.

You certainly have not received any help from this forum, as there appears to be no solution to the problem. We have not heard one peep out of Apple on this matter, one voice of reason to give us hope that this will ever be resolved.

Apple does not "peep" here in this community. If they are aware of the issue, and I am sure they are, they will not speak to it here.

The community is a place for non Apple employees to volunteer their time and effort to answer technical support questions. If "we" don't have a n answer, one won't be provided. This issue is clearly an example of this.

they are aware - they have done nothing for solve the issue - sort of my point really

Not disputing this. Not disputing you all have the right to be upset or disappointed. Not defending Apple.

Educating to those who chime in without regard to the purpose of this community.

Although Apple does indeed host this place, they do so with a mandate.

I accept this is not desired or popular. It is the reality.

Then here is a novel idea (which is in no way aimed at the very helpful users on this forum)

Why doesn't the administrator of this forum/thread just close it and put a message at the top saying.

"Catalina does not sync photos with iOS devices.

Do not waste your time trying to find workarounds for this issue - there aren't any.

Do not waste your time "ranting" because Apple is not listening and either is not going to fix it, doesn't want to fix it, or is incapable of fixing it."

Thanks PJ,

sensible suggestion. These problems (plural) are not going to be fixed via this forum. Some people have received help but the problem is too complex to fix for everyone. Maybe one day Apple will fully address people's EXISTING Photos syncing/corruption problems???

Perhaps keep this forum topic open but ALSO post your very sensible warning ON EVERY PAGE!!!

Thanks all.

Problem after problem.

i thought I would try go around the problem at my own expense and create two libraries in different user accounts so me and my wife could both access accounts using icloud- an expense I shouldn’t be forced too.

to do this I copied main library to external and then deleted all my old uni pictures then would use this for her library on her login. However the library won’t shrink. It shows as the same size! How do I fix this? If I copy this library again I can see it is 30gb smaller than original but once finishes says it is identical to original.

even working around the issue and paying for iCloud isn’t smooth

I have had some success with repairing the Photos library, hold down Option & Command and launch Photos. Albums WITHIN folders do sync. However, not all photos come across in the sync for some random albums. At the bottom for the album you will see the phrase "syncing..." I will add the step within the syncing process to remove all photos, uncheck photos sync, then re-check the box prior to starting the sync. Another post thought that the destination device, iPhone or iPad, requires some processing time even though it looks like Finder has completed the sync.

The original issue for this post was the inability to sync albums within folders. That seems to work.

I’ll look at it. I started trying to replace my photos with Google photos but it seemed to be duplicating everything on my phone, which I definitely didn’t want. I want a service where I can place predefined and organized albums on my phone that is not necessarily a part of my camera roll, which is just recent, random photos.

The only (and btw. fastest) way to properly sync Albums from Photos.App on the Mac to iOS Devices at the moment is to completely cancel all images from the Photo.App on the iOS devices (this may request 2-3 tries to really cancel all the pictures due to another Apple BUG) and completely resinc from Photos.app on the Mac to iPhone/iPadPro.

In my case (30K images) the result I get is a perfect sync.

The only problem is, I have to do this every time I add or cancel pictures from an album on one of the devices. If I do a normal Sync, the new pictures are not copied on the iOS Devices, and also the total amount of pictures is not correct. Some picutres are loosing without a reason. (in my case, at the moment: 33'881 (the real number) on the Mac, 24'486 on iPadPro, 31'961 on iPhoneX).

So be prepared: Every time you change (add/cancel pictures) your image collection in your albums Photos App, the only way to have the same content on all the Apple devices is to do a clean re-sync after deleting all the pictures on ior iOS device.

Don't expect any help on this form Apple, they just not care about user isussues or bugs, the care on demanding many monney for AppleCare....Apple doesn't care about you as an user, only about your monney.

The latest 2 updates seem to have solved the problems for me 😃.

I installed all updates (macOS, iOS and iPadOS), then repaired the library and synced - all photos and albums were synced to my iPad and iPhone. Then imported new photos, created a new album and synced again. Showed up perfectly well, all (old and new) photos are there 😃.

Yes exactly. The other heavy lack of Apple's Photos.app, is that you never will know if your library is corrupted. Of course you can repair it, but nobody can be shure that the library is really OK. And there is NO WAY to save a CLEAN COPY of the library, a new one, like it is possibile in most Apps.

In my case, the library is not recent, i began to manage my iphone pictures when Photos.app had another name (iPhoto?). Syncing was then perfect, even with 30K images.
