Mac Os Catalina do not sync photos with iOS Devices

Im using Mac OS Catalina 10.15, I have my photos on the Photos App, (I do not use iCloud photos).

To sync the photos, I connect the iPad to the Mac, open Finder (Since iTunes is gone), select the iPad from (locations) go to the right and click on Photos, select the albums and then hit sync. All the photos are not synced and apparently it syncs the albums under the root "My Albums" but is not able to sync the albums that are inside a folder.

Wow. Brilliant. It won't help everyone, but this helped me. I only wanted two folders of photos on my iPhone, the one of our cats and another album of selected photos. So, by moving those albums to sit under 'My Albums' instead of being sub-folders, I was finally able to get the photos I wanted on my iPhone.

Maybe this trick will help some others as well: if you can live with just a few albums on your phone, move them under 'My Albums' and then synch your iPhone through Finder.

Thanks Diego!!!

The most funny is about the names from Apple's team.

Genius, engineer, and and and.

They don't do anything, they don't know nothing.

I had an issue a year ago. I contact them once and after never replied to my phone calls, even i left many messages on voice mail.

Now about the sync of course it doesn't work.

The only way and works great is to create a folder everywhere except photos app.

In the pictures folder will be fine.

And after you have to choose the location to sync.

Works great with no issues.

Apple don't even care about us.

To follow up on my previous post.

I now have my photos back on my iPhone. I have no idea what will happen next sync. Each time I want to sync to one of my devices I have to power off my Mac and then back on and it seems to work.

My problem now is that on my iPad I was able to sync all photos but of my 22,000+ photos only about 10 show up. Everything else is just a black box. Ugh.

Like others, I had photo synch issues after installing Catalina and called Apple Support. The tech and I agreed that the best solution was to restore back to my previous OS, Mojave. Although it takes time, this is easily done using a recent Time Machine backup done right before I "upgraded" to Catalina.

Things work correctly now.

A very helpful person posted on my thread, similar to this one but I don't use the Photos app:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250716061

that the whole sync process goes a lot faster if you do this:

I turned on iCloud Photo Library on my iPad, waited a few minutes for the photos to delete, made sure they were gone, and turned it off. Deleted the iPodPhotoCache on my iMac, toggled "all photos" on and off a couple of times, and in about 2 hours had my 30k photos all synched back to my iPad.

I had this same problem last night. I *think* I solved it by quitting Photos and then opening it again while holding down the option + command keys, which brought up the “Repair Library” screen. I selected the Repair option. The repair process lasted a number of hours, but now my Mac photos are successfully syncing with iCloud, iPhone, etc. (fingers crossed).

Again, none of us know really know what Apple's intentions are, or are not. I will say this though: I know from personal experience that Apple frowns upon speculations and personal theories being posted in its forums which meander away from the technical nature of these forums. Apple likewise frowns upon any comments which are overly negative towards or critical of Apple. Such comments tend to be removed by the forum moderators.

Having said that, just because multiple people in this forum state something does not make it so. Personally, my view is that this syncing issue is an unintentional bug which somehow was overlooked by Apple. Yes, I am just as surprised as everyone else that it was overlooked. But my point is this: If Apple's intention is really to drive more people to purchase iCloud storage accounts, then I honestly don't think that they would have even gone through the trouble of making it possible to sync devices via the Finder's sidebar in the first place. I think they would have just been straightforward about it and said, "From now on, if you want to sync devices, you need to purchase an iCloud account that accommodates your particularly needs." I really don't think that they would have gone out of their way to upset a lot of people by letting this syncing bug pass through.

From everything I have read in this and other threads, it seems that Apple is now fully aware of this syncing bug, has already elevated it with its engineers, and is taking it seriously. Hopefully, we will see a fix in 10.15.2, or soon after.

A further update...

Fingers crossed mine SEEMS to be syncing for now, here are a few notes I hope will help someone:

  • I'm suspicious that alternating between USB and WiFi for the same device perhaps causes problems.
  • I ran a repair on my Photos library.
  • I deselected all albums in Finder sync, emptied the device and then added them
  • The finder sync pie-charts MAY operate as follows: First=Backup, Subsequent=Sync stages, Last=waiting for items to copy
  • Even when adding a single photo to a single album, the sync process seems to touch all albums and during the sync the numbers of photos in untouched albums varies, coming to rest at the correct number ony after the sync is finished.

I can't download my photos from my mac onto my iPhone, or iPad, and all the albums that were on them, have now disappeared.

They are still on my Mac, but whenever I tick the appropriate album boxes to carry them over to my other devices, it doesn't do anything.

And I lost all my emails when I installed Catalina.

I have spoke directly to Apple, and although they tried hard to help, we got nowhere.

Its unbelievable Apple would launch something like this Catalina OS update, and not test it properly. It has so many bugs, upset so many of their users, and I am shocked they have not thrown everything at it to fix it immediately.

Its a complete disaster and as a result, I am now not likely to download anything else from Apple, until it has an all clear confirmation.

So sad, when I had so much trust in them.
