Slow user switching

Fast-user switching has become slow (15s freeze) since I moved to Catalina.

I frequently switch between 2 user accounts. Switching under Mojave was reasonably fast. But under Catalina, the machine freezes literally for about 15 seconds. With either the color wheel spinning, or the spinning gear freezing (if the login screen is displayed).

I have a mid-2018 MacBook Pro 13" with 4 cores, so the age of the computer should not be the issue.

Hm, didn´t know exactly why but the the changing now is faster. Not really the same than with Mojave because after the pw the screen turns into black, but the chancing time is about 10s!

What have I done?

  1. Update to 10.15.1 (but seems to be useless)
  2. Photo seems to stick while the fav-creating-processes since nearly a Week so I start to rebuild the Database (ALT-CMD-Start Photo).

Hopefully it is more than a "one-time-wonder" :-)

Same here, but it's not just user switching. All these functions are noticeably and PAINFULLY slow now since Catalina :

  • waking from sleep
  • opening PDFs
  • opening any MS Office programme
  • opening any MS Office document
  • animated dock - jittery, launching an app from the doc pauses / stretches the animation
  • launching the date / calendar from top right corner

I could go on. Catalina has completely ****ed my Mac, which I have been using completely painlessly for 3 years. There are days now I want to throw it out the window and go back to, well....Windows

Same problem. I use 2 profiles all the time on my work and now everything slowed dow dramatically. Hope this gets solved fast.

I also get display properties shown on Touch Bar when I press the finger print button. "Same or Extended display"

Display link driver is installed if that cause that. But no external displays working without it.

I've just replaced my 2010 iMac 27" with a 2019 iMac 27" with 2TB SSD and i9 processor - Why is the switching between users so slow - my old iMac using Sierra was so much quicker. I'm now waiting over 15 seconds for it to swap users - seems like a backwards step which has cost me a large sum of money! (Also I find the sound quality not as good as my old iMac).

I did have the “hang at ‘setting up’ after screen time setup” issue. The one where if you’ve got 20,000 or so photos it tries to process them all again as a foreground task? before letting you continue (photoanalysisd). The one where you had to hard reboot during setup or wait for maybe two weeks! (Apple what are you playing at - tons of your pro users are photographers!)

hopefully this has nothing to do with the slow user switching now experienced!

i have noticed that leaving other users logged in means that photoanalysisd process for the other users goes really high cpu...

I only have the problem switching the user.

Everything else work fast and reliable.

But tonight I have seen that the AppStoreAgent flushs my Console-Log with Errormessages nearly ever 10 Secound.

Is this maybe the problem? The AppStore works normal and killing this process ist useless - the "logspaming" still goes on!

Same issue, user switching before upgrading was quite fast, but now it's horribly slow. My Macbook Pro is older than the others you guys have mentioned (Late 2013 13"), so I thought it may be to do with that, but obviously not..

FWIW I didn't have any issues/errors installing Catalina
