Slow user switching

Fast-user switching has become slow (15s freeze) since I moved to Catalina.

I frequently switch between 2 user accounts. Switching under Mojave was reasonably fast. But under Catalina, the machine freezes literally for about 15 seconds. With either the color wheel spinning, or the spinning gear freezing (if the login screen is displayed).

I have a mid-2018 MacBook Pro 13" with 4 cores, so the age of the computer should not be the issue.

MacBook Pro Mid 2015 w/ 16 GB RAM. On Catalina 10.15.1 now. Still the user switching is extremely slow - 15-20 seconds.

Was perfectly fine and fast until 10.14.

Was tired of Apple's bad design choices (display scratches on the 2015 computers, keyboard in the 2019.. lack of RAM/SSD upgradeability, etc). Now adding poorly tested software to that list.

Seriously considering moving out of mac platform to Linux for all personal computing uses.

I just upgraded from a 2009 27" iMac to a 2019 27" iMac, and now I have the same problem as everyone else in this thread when running Catalina on my new iMac. My 2009 27" iMac does not have this problem but, of course, it is running an earlier version of MacOS. I am very disappointed and my trust in Apple hardware and software has been badly shaken, and I am considering purchasing my next computer from a different manufacturer.
