Can’t enlarge pictures in text message

Brand new iphone 11 up to date ios as of Jan 20. A gentle press on the image initiates a haptic response and the image swells in size. You can then enlarge it. Be quick as it reverts. Press copy and it saves in images.

I believe I have figured it out. If you go to the picture within a text and try to enlarge it you get the blue circle checkmark to the left of the picture. If you first see the picture and just tap (no need to tap it hard) the picture you can then use finger spread to enlarge the pic.

If you forget and do the way we used to, just cancel and then tap the pic.

I have an iPhone SE and have the same problem. It’s way annoying but if you go to information button up the top of the screen, you can go to where all of the photos and links that you and the sender have shared are collected and it doesn’t happen there. You can still zoom the photos by finger pinching them out as usual.

Good to know that it’s an Apple problem and not just my phone being a pain.

I have found that if I first tap into the text box as if I am going to write something and then tap on the image, I am able to enlarge.

Pause finger on pic extra tad long

when vibrates and gets bigger the zoom in

that or

tap one quick tap

then when it pops

zoom with fingers

A simple finger tap worked for me👍🏻

My iPhone 5s zoomed ok.

My iPad generation 7 (2019) had this “no zoom” problem.

It was noticed after the most recent update, 13.4.1

I rebooted the iPad and it’s ok again.

Thank you Joe Vincent! What you would least expect on a touch interface to stab at the screen fast and firm but it does work oddly enough. No support or response from Apple of course, takes an end user to accidentally find the solution and post. Thank you for sharing. I'm sure your response will help many as this seems to be a common problem for users since IOS 13. Thank you Apple for not having a clue reading the thread and giving an answer nothing even close to resolve. You would expect better support from Apple. Thankfully us end users can share what we find with others.

I have the same problem, and as Joe said: tap hard and then you can enlarge. It wasn’t always a problem. I suspect if many of us are having the same problem, then Apple should fix it.

What works for me is to turn the device to change the orientation and turn it back. Then it works.

Hi, was having the same problem on my 11 so I pressed down on the photo and held my finger there for a second and it enlarged...

I had the same experience - showing the circles with check marks in them - and then it just occurred to me that I was in a "delete selected" mode or something. You have to cancel out of that first (upper right "cancel"), then it works.

So the correct procedure is NOT to 2-finger spread on an image to zoom - that is what gets you into that "delete selected" mode described above. You have to tap on the image once first, it expands to fill screen, THEN you can 2-finger spread zoom in further.

You need to maintain a "press and hold" with one finger, and the photo will enlarge, as if in a "new window" and then it will offer options to copy/save/more, but to get to a super-zoom, from that "new" pic size, then just double tap, and you should be all set.

The person who said his wife had same problem and he jus would tap the picture or context hard was ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!

On my wife's 6 a single "normal" tap yielded nothing. Just for the heck of it I used the "hard" single tap and it worked every time. I didn't "update" my 8 so I don't have the problem. It seems like lately "updates" are really down grades. So I only update when I have no other choice.
