messages not sorting properly in catalina

upgraded to Catalina... messages not sorting properly -- newest two on bottom rest ok... sort messages option in view greyed out.

sequence of msgs works fine on phone and iPad.

"Sort conversations" in Messages I've seen this asked a couple of times before, but never any hint of an answer. The "Sort conversations" menu item appears to be grayed out in Catalina. Is there any way to make it work? Or otherwise control the sort order? I happen to be asking because Messages suddenly reorganized my conversations into seemingly random order, and I can't see any way to put them back.

macOS Catalina - Messages app - cannot delete conversations I find repeatedly in Messages that I'm unable to delete a conversation - the "x" does not appear when I float over the conversation -- always just the one at the top of the list. I have to either quit/relaunch the app or sometimes scroll down the conversations list and back to get the "x" to return. Bug report filed. Noticed that El Capitan is the most recent Messages version offered in the menu - even though the OS menu is current.

can I pin messages on catalina 10.15.7? I How can I pin messages in Messages in Catalina 10.15.7? I've tried "click and drag to the top of the sidebar": nothing. I've tried CTRL-click - nothing. Thank you all

By the way: tried to call apple support - told it was a Mac issue when I set up call... two times the person answering said they are not Mac people and "transferred" me to an endless hold... gave up.
