I have updated my MacBook Air (2017) to Catalina, my iPad Air is iOS 13, and was looking forward to using sidecar, the problem is, is there is no such application or whatever anywhere on my Mac. I have searched the internet and confirmed that these devices are compatible, does anyone else have this problem?

Sidecar requires a compatible Mac using macOS Catalina and a compatible iPad using iPadOS 13:
Mac using macOS Catalina
MacBook Pro introduced in 2016 or later
MacBook introduced in 2016 or later
MacBook Air introduced in 2018 or later [you say you have a 2017 model]
iMac introduced in 2016 or later, plus iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)
iMac Pro
Mac mini introduced in 2018 or later
Mac Pro introduced in 2019
I only copied the Mac related system requirements. Read the entire support article for things such as hte iPad system requirements, plus other things that have to be activated. If you can read the article it is a lot more thorough than us copying and pasting sections to a discussion. ;-)
I have read all the system requirements and Sidecar does not show up in my preferences. I have an iMac with Catalina and the iPad Pro with iOS 13. When I click on the link in the macOS User Guide [Open Sidecar preferences for me] it simply takes me to preferences where the option does not exist. What do I do now?
Hi! I have a 2018 MacBook Pro and I also don't see the Airplay icon. I see the sidecar settings and I can use other continuity functions on my iPad Pro running version 13.1.2. But my MacBook doesn't recognize my iPad even when it is connected with a cable.
What else might be the issue?
I am guessing you have now noticed I highlighted that Sidecar requires a 2018 MacBook Air or later whereas you have a 2017.
