File permission over shared folders

i have setup a mac mini as my sharing file server for the company.

all the sharing permission is set correctly to read and write for the shared users.

however when i create/write file from logged in computer to the mac server, only the user who created the file can access the file, and other user can't. it will be come read only for all the other users.

how can this be fixed so that when a user creates a file, another user can access and write to it?

i have high sierra installed for the file server.

Hello bcoolin,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to use file sharing from a Mac mini on your network. If this Mac mini has a solid-state drive (SSD), please make sure Apple Filing Protocol (AFP) turned off and Server Message Block (SMB) is enabled, and here are some Apple resources to help:

Set up file sharing on Mac

Prepare for APFS in macOS High Sierra

Adjust SMB browsing behavior in macOS High Sierra 10.13 and later

Cheers!

bcoolin,

This is a bug in which the file_inherit and directory_inherit attributes are not set on parent folders when using System Preferences. Thus, no inheritance is passed to children and descendants.

I've provided guidance on resolving this in these two posts.

The fix is simple and your server will be working fine.

Hope this helps,
