I recieved the Error Message "Verification Failed - There was an error connecting to the Apple ID server." on my iMac that was recently upgraded to Catalina? Is there a fix?
Solved my own problem. A VPN was re-enabled after installing Catalina. I disabled it can could connect to the server.

Just quit the VPN app....if it is in the dock right click and and then quit or click in menubar to close.
I have the same problem on my iPad but my iMac and iPhone 11 are fine. There’s no vpn going on my iPad either
