Really Simple DNS question

Why are there DNS and proxy settings on my devices and network that I cannot remove?

And if it has anything to do with an ISP how can I cross-reference the configuration?

That is it, simple and sweet. Thank you!!! :-)

When a device is setup, by default things are pretty much automated for you. Your network will be set to use DHCP which will also automatically furnish you with a DNS server, hoste by your ISP.

You can supersede it by entering your preferred DNS server: a lot of people prefer OpenDNS or Google’s DNS servers.

So it is not like you can’t remove it, you can if you put in something else.

And of course if you know how, you can elect to configure it manually and it will be all up to you.
