macbook pro won’t start up just get white screen with logo on

When I tried to switch my MacBook Pro on today, I just keep on seeing a white screen with the Apple logo, loads half way then switches off, I tried various troubling shooting but nothing seems to work, any suggestions?

Did you try to use "safe mode"?
