Someone please help.
what should I do
I contacted Apple support, they told me to do that and it worked :
Press Command+R and then start you computer. Keep Command+R pressed until you get to a menu. If asked, Choose your language and continue. Then once you see the menu with 4 choices, click on the the apple in the top left corner and select the 1st choice : startup disk (or something like that). Select your Mac hard-drive, and click restart.

thanks, that let me get going again. This is my second failed Catalina upgrade. My home mac was even worse. Don’t know what’s happening at apple but thank goodness the team responsible for time machine did a great job.
Did you get catalina to install eventually?
To answer your question what’s going on at Apple. I have it on good information that all testing is automation. No humans = the constant issues we now are experiencing with the most unstable period of Apple releases spanning the last 5 years or so.
Same thing for me... on a 27" 2013 iMac
Same thing happened to my Imac 2014. Please help.....
Yes I did. After restarting a few times, a small update was needed and then Catalina installed correctly.
