I get the following error message when trying to rent a film" In order to buy, you need to authorise this computer. To authorise this computer, go to the Account menu and select Authorisations.
The thing is, I've rented films off here before, and where on earth is the 'Authorisations'?

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to rent a movie from the iTunes Store and you're getting a message to authorize your computer. To do this, please follow the relevant steps in this Apple resource:
Authorize or deauthorize your computer for iTunes Store purchases
