Changing Artist Artwork in new Music App within Catalina?

Hi,

One of the annoying things i found with the latest version of iTunes was the inability to change the artist artwork for the round tabs as shown on the attached screenshot when viewing in Artist mode, (see below).

About to upgrade to Catalina on Mac and was really hoping the new Music App would change this allow you to edit the artwork as per below?

In previous versions of iTunes this defaulted to the album with the highest rating, but not anymore.

Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated. lets hope Apple have changed this.

Thanks for all your help folks

Hi Less,

Appreciate your positive input as always.

I think perhaps my question is mis-understood.

Hopefully this may help.

Even though I have pointed to a blank artist circle tab with no artwork, that is actually not the main query that I have.

Perhaps a better way to phrase the query is as follows—

Take the Circle AC/DC Artist Artwork that is shown above. That Artwork is not taken from any of that Artists Albums in my library. It it self generated somehow by Apple.

What I am looking to do is change that Artist circle artwork to one of that Artists Albums in my library which already exists.

In Previous versions of iTunes that was possible, I.e if you gave a particular Artists album a higher rating that the others, the Artists circle artwork as shown above then changed to the same image as that album.

I would like to achieve same however I’m not sure that it can be achieved anymore By one means or another?

Not sure why the artist circle artwork self generates from Apple Music or another source and you don’t have the capacity to change to reflect your library albums?

Can leave things a little untidy, especially if any artist or indeed an Apple does not exist in Apple Music and is not reflected on CD import etc.

Hope this helps?

Appreciate your input and feedback as always

Simon.

Hi simonmurray,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you want to change the artwork for artists in iTunes or in the Music app on your Mac. I’m here for you, and would like to provide you with some information that may help.

While the artist artwork can’t be changed, you do have the ability to change the artwork to any song or other item in your music library. Check out the resources below to learn more:

I hope this information is useful. Kind regards.

simonmurray,

Thanks for getting back to us. Consider how the artist was added to your music library. Was their music ripped from CDs or added from the Apple Music catalog?

If you used Apple Music, content may not be available for a variety of reasons. However, you might try removing the download, then adding it again. Also, try searching the Apple Music catalog for the artist and see if the artwork appears there.

On the other hand, if their music was imported from a third-party source, I recommend removing the music, and trying to import it again to see if that helps.

Additionally, if you sync your music using iCloud Music Library, check to see if the artist artwork is also missing on the other device.

Have a great rest of your day.
