Could someone please tell me if it is possible to see what media in my tv library have been watched?

Hi.

Could someone please tell me if it is possible to see whether media in my library (tv shows and movies) have been watched? After I installed Catalina and changed to TV app I cannot see whether I have watched a program or not without right-clicking on it

Cheers

Pete

After reviewing my TV settings I have found that turning on 'Use Play History' does give me a limited sync between devices despite the info about this feature only saying that it is for personal recommendations, something that I don't want, but I have to have this on for the device sync to work. Apple are being sneaky by giving me a function that I don't want bundled with a function that I do want, I guess it's all about user data as everything seems to be these days.

So the app sucks for this, but I did sort of find a work around.

Go to the "Library" tab. Then "TV Shows". There you should see a list of the shows you've purchased. When I just bought my new Mac it wasn't showing, so I had to copy the "TV Library" from my old Mac to my new Mac to get it to show. That should be in /Users/<youruser>/Movies/TV

Then go up to the View menu, and select "As List". At this point you should see little blue dots telling you what you have or haven't watched.

Then Select "Show View Options" and check off whatever columns you want to appear. In my case the most important on is "Date Added", afterwhich I also selected to sort by "Date Added". Because then I at least get most of the new shows I haven't watched near the top of the list.

Definitely not ideal, but it's at least something.

Catalina TV app, I can't tell what has been watched and unwatched either, and its driving me nuts. Another feature Apple forgot..there are many. I don't have any blue circles either. Absolutely no way to tell what has been watched or not without right-clicking on each episode to check. I don't understand how Apple forgot to include this and many other features, this is basic stuff.

Apple didn't remove that feature.

They decided that it was useless and they know better than you.

As always, they take convenient things off instead of offering them as options in the Preferences that one can turn on or off.

And in this case, this is even more dumb as if you right click on a movie, you can "Mark as watched" or "Mark as unwatched"... How is this useful to turn on/off an information that is not used at all?

Consider yourself lucky. I don't even have the blue circles anymore. It is evident that my install does not recognize watched from unwatched episodes. The phone used to communicate that back iTunes, now if I watch an episode and delete it on the phone, Finder re-downloads the episode to my phone because I have selected to have all unwatched episodes on my phone.
