Upgraded to MacOS Catalina and now I cannot unzip any zipped file. I had no problems before. Also, moving the file or redownloading is not fixing it. Multiple files of different sizes failed. MacBook user here.

Working solution: The Unarchiver is a free Zip/Unzip program for Mac which handles these files perfect in Catalina, it solved this issue for me. Good luck.

It doesn't have to be that complicated.
You can use the third unzip tool, such as eZip

I used The Uniarchiver 4.1.0 and I had good results.
rename and then unzip using terminal. It works for me.
Me too. I never had ANY zipped files, but when I 'upgraded' to catalina half of my files turned into zip docs that I CANNOT unzip, and when I click to unzip it duplicates itself!!! HELP!

Ok, meanwhile, i've downloaded 'unarchiver'
It brought up a window saying 'open these archive types with The Unarchiver'

Download Extractor app its free and try to open or unzip using this app. Just solved my problem after upgrading to Catalina also encounter same issue.
@Namronksly, I downloaded the 'unarchiver' and it's still not helping. When I click to open the file, the unarchiver (or previously windup) pops up for a moment and disappears. Not unzipping
I had this problem too. But I solved it. It's just download free app, "The Unarchiver".
I had the same issue just earlier.
I just downloaded a random free zip online and installed it, then changed the file title to random English letters. It's unzipped now.
Unable to unzip using the native zip utility. I'm attempting to unzip a file of text files. Never had this problem before Catalina.

I tried your method and it worked by using an App called Decompressor but not with the other such as Unarchiver. Thanks!
