My watch has been doing this ever since the most recent iOS 13 update on our phones. Happens when I lift my wrist to look at the time. I have a series 3 nike apple watch paired to an iPhone 8+ running iOS 13. See attached photo - Any suggestions other than the usual turn it on and off again would be appreciated! Thanks. (Ignore my gorilla arm...)

Try a reset by pressing in the crown and side button until you see the Apple logo, then release both.
I’ve done the reset several times, but the screen issue (just like the one described) keeps recurring. I updated to the latest software but it’s still not working right. Hoping it’s just a software issue that will be resolved by a future update!!
thank you for responding, but this is a link to an article describing how to turn off the red dot notification which is unrelated to my problem. The problem being a black screen with no watch face.
that appears to have temporarily solved the issue. Will update post should it return. I have tried turning on and off again once before and the issue came back. Could just be a bug.
I’m having the same issue! I have updated all my softwares and done the temporary fixes. Glad to know it’s not just my watch. Hopefully they will fix the bug in the next update.
