We have a mac server managing OD and file sharing and it has served us well for the last 20 years. Now when Mac OS Server App has limited it's scope and seems to be going away, what are the recommended server solution for file server use?
We have been looking in to dropbox and windows server but there must be a "best practice" recommendation for Mac based teams?
We rely on working in collaboration and accessing 1,4 million files, 6 TB of data.

For mere filesharing, every Mac can do that. Buy a mini and connect any drive and you have a server.
But I think your team should look as some Network storage, Synology or similar where you can have all the functionality of SERVER .
I will run my Mac mini 2010 with Server 5.3.1 for another 2-3 years and see then what is new and hot.
It seems that apple, with iCloud is preparing for shared folders, which could be the beginning of a cloud based Mac centric Filesystem.
