FaceTime on iPhone 11 Pro using ultra wide lens

Hi folks,

I've come across something that's really bugging me about the iPhone 11 Pro that I hope someone might know a solution to. We live more than 5000 miles from family and rely on FaceTime an awful lot to keep in touch with home (it's the only way our baby gets to see her grand parents), but on the iPhone 11, it seems that FaceTime defaults to the ultra wide lens so everything looks far away and distorted (usually we use the back camera so so our family can see the baby while we're chatting).

Is there a way to switch between the cameras?

Thanks for your help!

Hello Robrad30,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I understand the camera quality with the back camera during FaceTime calls is not as expected. I'll do what I can to explain and help.

With FaceTime, you can only switch between the front and back cameras. If you're having general issues with the camera while taking photos and videos, try these: If the camera on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn't working

If the viewing issues happen with just the FaceTime app, try these suggestions to remove and reinstall the app itself: Delete built-in Apple apps on your iOS 12 or later device or Apple Watch

Take care.
